Money. No one likes to talk about it. Those who don’t have it wish they had more, and those who have got it are always worried it will disappear. If more people were more open about money, we could spend less time worrying about it and more time enjoying it. At the end of the day, money does make the world go round, and it certainly makes us happy. And although we don’t need tonnes of it to be happy, we do need it in some form…
Why It’s Important
They say that money can’t buy happiness, and it’s true that some of the richest people in the world are absolutely miserable to be around, but that doesn’t mean that not having money will make you happy. In most cases, it’s the opposite.
For the vast majority of the population, having an adequate financial income that allows you to live happily is the ideal, and it’s only by discussing this openly that we can really compare ourselves to others and know how ‘well’ we’re doing with our money.
Avoiding Stress
Money worries are a huge problem in society right now and a huge contributing factor to the diagnosis of stress and even depression. You’re not always going to have the money to buy all of the things you want, but as long as you’ve got the money for the basics and the odd luxury, you’re going to be okay.

A great way to avoid the stress of money worries is to get your finances sorted out. Although there used to be stigmas around getting an online loan, this is changing, and if you have debts, it could prove useful for you. Getting an online loan could help pay off the debt and lower your monthly payments – as long as the overall interest rate on the new loan is lower than the combined interest rate of the existing debts, then it could be a useful way to consolidate your debts and start out on a good footing from here on in.
Getting Kids Better Equipped Financially
Talking about money openly is also a good way to set your children up for a better financial future. Getting them to understand the real financial impact of their decisions, their wants, and their desires is the perfect solution to all of those expensive requests.
Getting kids to work for an allowance and letting them buy the things they want with their allowance will set them up to understand the value of both hard work and the money itself.
I remember when I was a child and my parents set up my first bank account up, and they still advised me on my best moves interest wise as I was going into my teens. I chose Santander back then, and I’m still with them now.
Planning Big Life Events
One of the most important reasons to talk about money openly is planning for big life events.
Couples planning their wedding are at serious risk of problems if they don’t open up about their finances straight away. Even if one half of the couple earns more than the other, or they are both equal ‘breadwinners,’ it’s important to get the money conversation out of the way before you walk down the aisle.
You may decide to have completely separate finances and only pay the bills together out of one account, or you may decide to have a joint account for all of your money, but the very worst thing you can do is to not discuss it and to leave your partner in the lurch worried about whether you’ve spent this month’s rent on a new video game!
