No matter where you live in the world, there are going to be areas in other parts of the globe that are healthier than your region. There are also going to be places which are not as healthy, with worse habits and ways of life.
Gaining and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is mostly up to the individuals that live within a particular community, but where you live can tremendously influence your lifestyle. For more information on which nations are healthiest, you can check out braceyourhealth.
Of course, there are other aspects of becoming and remaining healthy that are beyond the control of individuals. These include socioeconomic and the help a government can and cannot provide.
On the surface, there are several reasons why different parts of the world seem to be healthier than others. Let’s take a look at them to see if we can be inspired to take on methods of the way that other nations live…
First and foremost is what a community is eating. Their nutrition is one of the major determining factors of the population’s overall health. If there is no access to good, quality, healthy foods, then the people will not be as healthy. One example of a good diet is the Mediterranean Diet.
The Mediterranea Diet is inspired by the healthy eating habits of long-time residents of places such as Italy, Spain, and Greece. The basics are fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and good fats like nuts, olive oil, and fish.
Access to the ingredients of a Mediterranean Diet is not always available to everyone in a community. There are several spots within a town that are deemed food insecure, which means they do not have grocery stores or other types of food delivery programs that other parts of towns have. When fast food and junk food is more affordable and readily available, it is hard for people to eat healthily.
Similar to the availability of fresh foods, not all communities have access to exercise. Many smaller and medium-sized towns around the world have designated outdoor walking paths. Or, the citizens do not have access to their own transportation or public transportation so they walk everywhere. This is a great form of exercise. Many places in the United States are more than 10 miles from the nearest store, therefore walking is not an option.
Additionally, the cost of joining a gym for exercise, or purchasing exercise equipment for home use, is far too expensive for most family’s budgets.
You’ll also find that places like Australia have a lot of outdoor gyms, along the beach fronts. This not only saves a lot of money, but the outdoor lifestyle in the warmer weather makes this easier to do. Wouldn’t work out so well in the UK winter…
Quality of Living
Probably the biggest contributing factor to a healthy lifestyle is the quality of life in different parts of the world. Take for example a place where food, even junk food, is scarce, you are going to have individuals that are extremely unhealthy and have a poor quality of life.
To balance the wealth of fresh and good foods in some areas, there is also the ability to obtain health care. Most countries around the world have health care as part of their citizen’s overall guarantee as a person. Simply by being born into a certain country, that person is afforded universal health care, which makes all the difference in the world to most people.
If a community has only one of these three reasons for better health than their citizens have a chance to improve their health. It is the communities that lack in all of these programs that endanger their citizens.
