Healthy Food: It Can Be Delicious, Too…

A lot of people find it challenging to eat healthy food these days. Maybe it’s because of the fast-paced world we live in. This it is due to the age of instant gratification.

There are many things you can do with the Internet that will cater to your every whim right away. Want to watch a movie? Streaming sites offer you the chance to watch videos on demand. Do you want to go shopping? There are many online stores you can choose from, and you do not have to leave the comfort of your own home if you want to do some shopping.

When it comes to nutrition, fast food has been with us for decades. These goods usually need to have a longer shelf life than fresh ones, so expect them to be high in preservatives. In addition to that, they are flavourful, but that means that they could be high in salt or sugar.

We have an abundance of fast foods available at the click of a button these days due to apps, making it more tempting than ever to indulge.

However, as a nation, we’re becoming a lot more educated on health, and our diets are become the main driving factors behind living healthier lives. It’s a good thing that there are people out there now who advocate for healthier options. Over the last two years, fresh food and wholesale gluten-free products have garnered more demand than ever before.

This can be attributed to the steady rise of chronic diseases such as hypertension and obesity, and those affected are getting much younger. It’s not unusual to see obsese children, who lack nutrient rich diets.

So, with the store shelves being packed with unhealthy food, and takeaways available at the touch of our mobiles, what are the healthier substitutes we can try to enjoy?

Popcorn

You do not have to be at a cinema to enjoy popcorn. You also don’t have to douse it in sugar, too! Just pop some kernels in a pan, and let that pop over your stove. Or you can go the more convenient route and use a microwave. Either way, the result is a delicious, fiber-rich snack.

If you are going to use oil, though, go easy on it. Use as little as you can or else you will just be defeating the purpose of it being a healthier snack alternative. So instead of munching on other salty chips with artificial flavoring, just make some popcorn. Perfect for film nights in on a weekend.

Tofu

This by-product of soy milk is well-known for its versatility. Its uncooked form is very soft and delicate. When you eat it with miso soup, it melts in your mouth and flows together with the hot soup. But you can also deep fry it if you want to experience contrasting textures.

It is rather bland by itself, but it can be a vehicle for various seasonings. If you want to imitate any flavor of meat, you can mix it with the right seasoning or broth. This is fitting since tofu is also known to be high in protein. If you’re averse to eating real meat, then tofu is a great substitute to boost protein levels.

Bananas

Forget about your sugary sports drinks. If you are hankering for a supply of electrolytes, bananas have them! This sweet fruit is rich in potassium, an electrolyte that helps keep your heart healthy. Bananas are also known to prevent you from cramping, so they are also perfect for working out.

Most importantly, if you are dehydrated, this will help you replenish your lost water. Like many other fruits, bananas also have a good amount of water content, so you can avoid complications of not drinking enough water by regularly eating bananas.

There are a lot of healthier food alternatives out there; it is just a matter of finding one that fits your taste. People should be focusing more on health because the world is moving fast, and not to be frightening, but so is your time.

Eat well, live well. And if in doubt, muddle together fruit with yogurt and a sprinkling of a sugar free, flavoured protein powder to add a little flavour. A nutritious, health smoothie option!
