I don’t know about you, but lockdown has got me feeling really nostalgic about all the things I once took for granted. Going to friends houses for prosecco and takeaway nights, and sleeping over. Spa days with my Mum, enjoying the hot tub. Afternoon tea on the regular, because I love nothing more than scones, tea and cake with my favourite ladies.
One amazing thing I noticed since March, is how great it was to see companies rallying round to offer the glamour of days out to be enjoyed at home. Of course, going out to a restaurant is never going to be the same as having a fine dining course delivered to your door, because you’re still at home. But, it’s a blessing to be able to have the opportunity to take up lifes luxuries and still have them, just from home rather than venturing out.
Afternoon tea is one of them. I’ve never been too fond of attempting to create my own, so when I heard that Red Letter Days were offering Afternoon Tea for Two to be enjoyed at home, I was so excited to try it.
Originally, my idea was to host a garden themed, picnic feel afternoon tea for myself and my boyfriend at home. I had a picnic rug ready, but sadly, the Manchester weather meant a solid 10 days of rain. And I wasn’t going to hold off indulging in at-home afternoon tea for that reason!
So I brought the picnic vibes indoors! The Red Letter Days Afternoon Tea delivery I received came from a cute company called Piglets Pantry, which arrived in a sturdy pink box complete with all the chill bags and padding it needed. Everything arrived in tip top condition!

The At-Home Afternoon Tea For Two Package
A handmade, traditional picnic style afternoon tea for two available at Red Letter Days, delivered freshly to your door. Here’s what to expect when you open the box:
- 2 CHEESE & CHIVE QUICHES
- 2 TRADITIONAL SCOTCH EGGS
- 2 MINI TRADITIONAL SAUSAGE ROLLS
- 2 MINI SAUSAGE ROLLS WITH CHEESE AND PICKLE
- 2 SCONES WITH CLOTTED CREAM AND STRAWBERRY CONSERVE
- A SELECTION OF 4 CAKES (EITHER CARROT CAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE ICING, BLUEBERRY BANANA AND LEMON CURD ICING, CHOCOLATE CHIP AND CARAMEL DRIZZLE)
- AFTERNOON TEA AND EARL GREY TEA BAGS
The total value is £35, and it makes a lovely alternative to attempting to go out in the crazy world when everything is a little up in the air. I was so happy to receive a box filled with an array of picnic style afternoon tea nibbles – plus the fact there is items like quiche and scotch eggs, it’s so much more appealing than the usual sandwiches!
If you’re similar to be and are faced with a day of non stop drizzling rain, just simply pop a pretty table cloth or picnic blanket over your dining table, put some music on it the background, and get out your best side plates, cups and saucers! If you have a tea pot, even better!
The array of savoury can of course be enjoyed hot or cold, but full heating instructions are provided as eating them warm was the best option for us. The cheese and pickle sausage rolls had to be my favourite by far – closely followed by the scotch eggs! I’m not usually a fan of eggs but these were just delicious, with a soft meat coating and golden breadcrumb.
Warning: the savoury offerings might not look overfacing but after I had finished my half of everything, I could feel myself getting slightly full, and scones are my very favourite thing associated with afternoon tea, so I had to make sure I had room to finish both of the scones off (my partner isn’t too fussy about scones so kindly gave me his!).
I love nothing more than scones with a layer of butter, clotted cream and then a dollop of strawberry jam on top, washed down with English Breakfast tea. These did not disappoint! Light, fluffy and truly scrumptious.
The Desserts
I am a sucker for desserts, and have often felt disappointed when I’ve dined out for afternoon tea at some rather fancy establishments and the desserts are just little bit too over the top and exquisite. I’m happiest with loaf cakes – victoria sponges, carrot cakes, bluberry muffins or chocolate brownies! The more simple, the more I enjoy them with copious amounts of tea and coffee.
Now this is where Piglets Pantry at Red Letter Days won me over. A delicious slab of carrot cake with cream cheese style frosting icing and a blueberry loaf cake were there waiting for me. I also enjoyed a chocolate chip slab of cake too – the most effective cakes to follow a scone with jam and cream.
Again, my boyfriend isn’t a huge sweet tooth person so kindly gave me his share of cakes too. Safe to say I was in a deep sugar coma after this afternoon tea session!
Thank you Red Letter Days for providing me with a slice of luxury afternoon tea, picnic style, in the comfort of my own home. I felt so much better after bringing some normality back into my life (with me being a huge afternoon tea go-er in ‘normal life’!).
