Northumberland is a beautiful county that has a lot to offer. Bordering Scotland and featuring both stunning coastline and lovely countryside, it has plenty of history, culture, wildlife, and more. Seahouses
Some people definitely prefer a village when they’re looking for somewhere to stay. Villages can be smaller and quieter, while still having plenty of life and things to do. Seahouses is a great example of a lovely village where you’re sure to enjoy your stay. This fishing village is home to great places to base your stay, such as the Castle Inn Bamburgh. It’s a great spot for wildlife lovers, especially with boat trips available that can take you out to The Farne Islands to see puffins, seals, and more. Local restaurants and pubs make the village an attractive place too.

Berwick-Upon-Tweed
The town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed sits on the border between England and Scotland. This historic town is wonderful to explore, and it’s a good place to stay if you want to go further afield too. The town’s Elizabethan walls are a great attraction and there are some fantastic beaches nearby too. Cycling and walking in the area are both popular activities, or you might like to seek out some fishing spots. The town itself benefits from places to eat and drink, some lovely independent shops and boutiques, and lots of enjoyable arts and culture too.
Alnwick
Alnwick is home to Alnwick Castle, but that’s not the only attraction that will draw you to the town. Of course, the castle itself is impressive, and they’ve definitely capitalised on its filming connection with the Harry Potter films. But away from the castle, you can also experience more history at the Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery, discover your next read in the stacks at Barter Books, or take a stroll around Hulne Park. You’re also close to the village of Alnmouth, as well as other nearby areas and attractions. If you visit the castle, don’t forget to see The Alnwick Garden too.

Morpeth
The traditional market town of Morpeth has plenty of history and heritage, making it a good pick for history lovers or anyone else. You can find everything from shopping on the high street and in the Sanderson Arcade to woodland walks around Carlisle Park and a range of restaurant options offering different cuisines. Morpeth also has some great local events and live music, and it’s close to some other attractions that can easily be visited on a day trip.
