We all need a relaxing night in now and again but it isn’t always easy to switch off from life’s stresses and unwind the way we need to. Here are some top tips to help you make the most of your relaxing night in.
Get Comfy
Comfortable clothes are an absolute must for a relaxing night in. You’ll find it difficult to unwind if you’re feeling restricted and uncomfortable so choose something that you can really kick back and relax in, like clothing made of soft, warm fabrics such as leisure wear or pyjamas combined with a dressing gown and fluffy slippers. While it’s Winter and we’re feeling like we want to enjoy cosy nights in, you can always opt for stylish nightgowns and relax in bed early in the evening, putting on a film or reading a book, nice and comfy.
Turn Off Technology!
Technology is a huge part of our lives and there’s no doubt that it makes life easier in many ways, however, it has its downsides too. Most of us spend very little time away from our phones, tablets, laptops or televisions and if we do, many of us will feel guilty for not responding to emails or calls right away or suffer from Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO.)
Taking time away from technology, sometimes referred to as ‘unplugging’ or having a much-needed social media break or screen-free evening can be a good way to reset and reconnect with ourselves away from what everyone else expects of us. If you’re in need of a relaxing night in, turning off your phone and other devices can help you truly relax and think about what you want to do, rather than what you should be doing. Of course, if what you really want to be doing is playing a relaxing game of solitaire, or reading on your Kindle, then that’s totally fine, but try to have a portion of your evening be screen-free, at least.
Have a Hot Drink
Having a hot drink has been shown to help both our minds and bodies relax so if you’ve had a stressful day they can be just the ticket. Warm drinks are also an excellent way to warm up on cold evenings so put your feet up and wind down in the evening with a nice hot cup of green tea.
Soak in the Bath
A nice long soak can do the world of wonders if you’re feeling tense or you’ve had a tough day. A warm bath with bath salts like Epsom Salts or a muscle soak can help ease stiffness, tension and soreness in your muscles, helping you to physically relax. Plus the warmth of the water and the chance to take some time out does the same for your mind too.
Put on some calming background music, pour yourself your favourite drink and run yourself a nice deep bath to soak in. If you’re worried about being bored, you can always read a book or magazine or just use the opportunity to reflect on what’s going on in your life at the moment.
