As much as I have always threatened to go professional and get my teeth whitened ‘properly’, I’ve always been a little afraid. I guess it’s just not something I’d particularly look forward to having done, plus the cost is also something that puts me off. And I guess if the results were brilliant, maybe I’d be wanting to get it done all the time – not practical here!
So over the past 12 months, while on the run up to my wedding, I’ve been paying more attention to branded toothpastes and working out which ones are worth the money. They tend to retail at around the £10 mark, which may seem steep for a toothpaste, but for one that does make a noticeable different to the whitening of the teeth, I think it’s pretty reasonable.
Let’s explore 5 of my favourites which are all available online, and don’t cost too much!
- Beverly Hills Formula – Advanced Black Pearl Whitening Toothpaste, £10
This one sits at the top of my list of 5 as I felt it made the most difference in the quickest amount of time. I’ve actually only been using it for around 9 days and I feel like my teeth look much cleaner and brighter since using it. The toothpaste from Beverly Hills Formula has a new advanced formula containing activated charcoal, said to help eliminate bacteria causing bad breath. The combined formula of professional whitening ingredient PAP, advanced pyrophosphates, hydrated silica and pearl powder work to help remove surface and deep stains, without harming the enamel. I had a bit of obvious staining on the bottom teeth, due to lack of visiting a dentist since COVID and drinking a lot of coffee and green tea, and this has definitely lifted it slightly.
2. NuSkin AP 24 Whitening Toothpaste, £9.99
I was dubious with this toothpaste at first, as there were far too many edited before and after photos circling the internet for this product. When I first used it, I didn’t like how it had no foam to it either, so I felt like I wrote it off on day one. However, after only 3 days of using this toothpaste my teeth felt incredibly squeaky clean. My mouth health felt improved, along with lovely breath, and by the end of the 7 days I noticed a much whiter, brighter smile. Of course, it wasn’t a complete ‘wow’ before and after like the edited pics going around Instagram. But it was noticeable to me. I’ve heard that dentists recommend this product, and I have to say I’ve enjoyed using it. You need to find a NuSkin seller for it, or you can buy direct here.
3. Spotlight oral care toothpaste for whitening teeth £7.99
This is for those who need a good, old-fashioned toothpaste which includes classic ingredients to restore the whiteness, rather than the charcoal-laden ones out there. Spotlight’s popular toothpaste contains the classic whitening ingredient hydrogen peroxide, as well as fluoride, which is in most traditional toothpaste to help prevent decay. It aims to care for teeth and protect them, along with added brightness. The stain-reducing is short term, but it does work to lift that yellow, off colour our teeth can get. The packaging is lovely too – very chic.
4. Oral B 3D white luxe perfection whitening toothpaste £2.48
This one made the top 5 list purely because it is a fabulous budget buy – just £2.48 for this toothpaste. When used consistently it can remove stains slowly, along with caring for mouth health and teeth cleanliness. It’s a slow worker, but brightening does happen and it has a zingy, fresh mint flavour. Brilliant for breath! The advertisements around this toothpaste gave unrealistic time expectations, as I found it didn’t work as quickly as it promotes it does. However, worth the money and can’t go wrong.
5. Regenerate advanced toothpaste £11
Regenerate gets recommended lots around beauty groups, and our reviewer reported great results from this one. I didn’t personally review it, but outsourced this product to a contributor. They say it offers everything you would expect from a usual toothpaste, in terms of minty freshness, protection against cavities, but with the added feeling that teeth felt stronger and looked cleaner. They said they looked brighter and fresher in two weeks.
This toothpaste doesn’t contain an active whitening ingredient, but instead helps re-mineralise and harden damaged enamel. This is said to give the appearance of a healthier, shinier smile and helps protect against further staining. A little dearer than some, but worth the splurge!
