Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation: worth the hype? Yay or nay?
This was the question on my lips for the past couple of years.
So for those who don’t know, I’m a bridal makeup artist on the side, along with running the What Emma Did brand full time.
I choose to specialise in bridal makeup because simply put: I love weddings. I can’t get enough of them. So instead of splitting my time between occasion makeup, prom and parties, I decided to the time I spend doing makeup focusing on bridal parties.
Alongside that I obviously spend a lot of time and energy into makeup reviews for the What Emma Did brand. As an ongoing acne sufferer (which seems to have gone down a lot lately, but I’m terrified of jinxing that so the less said the better!) I’m a sucker for a full coverage, long wearing foundation.
So many people told me I needed to try the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, in which I always wanted to, but for around £42 a bottle, it was slightly pricier than the other foundations I recommend to my clients.
I finally got round to trying it last month and I have to say, I totally see where the hype comes from. I can see why it holds a more premium price point. This stuff is pretty magically in the world of foundation, so let me share my thoughts a little further.
Firstly, if you want a foundation which covers well, lasts the duration of the day (although its USP isn’t it’s longevity, but it does stand the test of time during the working day), and mimics healthy looking skin, then you’re potentially going to agree with me.
It has a super silky feel, which when I first put this on the back on my hand and dipped my brush into it (that’s how I always recommend applying foundation), I noticed just how satin-like it is. It felt lovely on the back of my hand, but even better on my skin, gliding seamlessly into my skin.
It’s very lightweight, which is different to the usual heavy fluid foundations I tend to wear.
The ‘wow’ factor about this foundation is that it aims to capture the natural glow of perfect looking skin, hence the name Luminous silk foundation, which connotates to silky, glowing skin. And that it does do. You are left with that subtle sheen, which gives a boost of health and radiance to the complexion, without looking oily or shiny.
It is an oil-free hydrating fluid with exclusive Micro-fil™ technology, meaning that it doesn’t clog the pores with oil, and it will blend into any creases and lines in the skin without going all cakey. Those with aging skin – listen up!
What I loved just as much as its glow factor is that it is super easy to build up the coverage, which is improtant for me having quite bad skin.
It’s also a dream for my job, too, as I prefer to work with foundations that let me build up the intensity depending on the clients skin. Those with flawless faces only need one application of this, whereas those with a few spots, pigmentation and marks benefit for two light applications.
The photo at the start of this blog post is of me going for a heavy look with this foundation. I do like to go quite bold with my makeup, but it is worth noting this was for an influencer event, therefore I don’t usually go so bold on a weekday.
The other photos above and below are from a wedding in which the bridal party all wanted natural makeup looks. I used a combination of the two Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation shades , and as you can see, each girl is flawless!
Yes it is rather pricey, but I do understand why. When you pitch it next to some other foundations that retail at the top end of the £30 mark, you can quite prominatley see the difference. This one will also last you aaaaaaaages. Trust me!
Very pleased to say I’ve now tried this and can add this to not only my pro MUA kit, but my own makeup bag. I actually wear it on a lot of my Instagram photos, which you can check out here:
