Settled in the magnificent countryside between the Dniester River and the Black Sea, Château Purcari is the most popular winery in Central and Eastern Europe. Dating back to 1827, Purcari is the oldest winery in Moldova. The same year was produced the first wine- Negru de Purcari which several decades later was presented at Exposition Universalle in Paris where it received the first gold medal regarded as the best red wine.
Château Purcari has participated in many international contests, including International Wine & Spirits Competition, International Wine Challenge, Decanter World Wine Awards and many others.
Purcari was proclaimed as the first professional winery in Bessarabia in 1827 by the Emperor of Russia Nicolas I. it was named after one of the German founders- Harmizone. Hereafter, the Moldovian barons became owners of Puracri, along with other Germans, Russians and French.

Several decades later, Purcari winery participated in the closed wine tasting at Paris World Expo where it won its first gold medal. French wine experts were dazzled by the colour, taste and smell of the red wine being convinced that it was a Bordeaux wine. However, they were surprised to hear that the wine came from the small Purcari village.
Purcari wines were compared to French Bordeaux wines because the vineyard`s location has the same latitude as Bordeaux, but also the soil contains significant amounts of rubidium which gives the wine its outstanding purple colour. These wines are also famous for their intensity and complexity.
Many popular historic figures were served with this marvellous wine, including Emperor Nicholas II, King George V and Queen Victoria.
Today Château Purcari owns 250 hectares of vineyards exporting wines to more than 30 countries worldwide, including Europe (UK, Norway, Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic), America ( Canada and USA), and Asia ( China, South Korea, Japan).
