Winter is officially on it’s way, and as we head towards the cold season, more of us are spending more time indoors and finding cosy ways to keep the winter chills at bay. Whether you’re having a lazy weekend lie in or swapping a night out on the town to curl up with a book (or with a laptop, more in my case!), there’s nothing better than having a snuggly and comfy bed to relax in. If you’re sleeping zone is overdue a seasonal makeover, here are three tips to make your bed super snug for winter.

Invest in warm bedding

With the warmer months well and truly behind us, it’s time to swap your breezy, summer bedding for something more substantial. Upgrading to a high thread count sheet and high tog duvet can instantly transform your bed into a snug sanctuary and keep you well insulated during those chilly nights. For even more warmth, consider adding a soft mattress topper to keep you toasty between the sheets when the weather begins to turn. To get a better idea of the types of winter bed linen available, head to specialist sites such as I tend to opt for white as a rule, to give that clean and modern feel to my bedroom.

Let loose with scatter cushions

Take your lounging levels up a notch by adorning your bed with a selection of plump, oversized pillows and textured scatter cushions. Not only can these soft furnishings come in useful when propping yourself up to read or watch TV, but they also help to inject warmth, colour and personality into the room. To create a Pinterest-worthy sleeping space, play around with a range of seasonal shades, fabrics and patterns. Remember, you don’t need an abundance of cushions to create a homely feel, just make sure the ones you choose are thick and comfy. I have a lovely little mix of chequered, soft velvet and graphic pillows as you can see above.

Add luxury throws

Ok, so you probably don’t need any more reasons to hit the snooze-button in the morning, but no winter bed is complete without sumptuously soft throws. Whether you’re wrapping up with a cup of tea or seeking extra warmth when the temperature drops during the night, having a selection of thick blankets and throws on hand can help to stave off the cold and reduce your heating bills at the same time. Layer snug fabrics like wool, velvet and faux fur to create an alluring range of textures or simply drape a luxurious throw across the foot of the bed to keep your toes toasty all night long.
Armed with these winter bed suggestions, you shouldn’t struggle to create an ultra cosy sleeping area that you’ll never want to leave. I find myself spending a lot of time sat on my bed doing work (a lot of posts are typed up from bed actually), making to do lists, watching TV, enjoying a cup of tea- it comes in use a lot! So take some pride in yours and make it into a cosy little haven…
