Lifestyle: A Hen Party Weekend in Benalmadena

This Summer, I’m lucky to be taking on the role of Maid of Honour for my best friend at her wedding In fact, myself and my twin sister have both been given the role, and I’m super excited to do a good job!

It’s the second time I’ve been a Maid of Honour, the first time being for my twin sister. I know from experience that when I say ‘I’ve taken on the role’, it really is a role, as it’s such a big thing to be the one who supports the bride on both the run up, and on the big day.

This time around, I have to say I planned a pretty impressive hen weekend. From a surprise karaoke to a luxury catamaran, here’s what went down…

So, I’ve just recently returned from a Bank Holiday weekend in Benalmadena in Spain, in which 8 of us headed off to Spain for a 2 night, 3 day adventure. But first of all I wanted to kick start the hen weekend with something aimed especially for the hen – and what better than a bottle of Moet?

Well, you can actually go one step better by personalising a gift like this for a hen party present, in which myself and my sister opted for an engraved bottle of Moet, with a message to the hen from us. Basically, this gorgeous bottle of premium fizz would be ours and the hens pre-flight celebration drink, and the best part is, the bottle is now an actual keepsake with the engraving.

I ordered this personalised gift from Gifts Online 4u– an online retailer specialising in personalising and engraving a variety of gifts for all occasions. In fact, there were even some little bits I wanted for myself, just as a general home item or keepsake for just me!

If you’re a maid of honour, or even going to a wedding and are unsure of a gift, I recommend checking out this site because it really does give you a lot of inspiration!

As much as I headed straight to the Personalised bottle of Moet due to the fact I could give the hen the finest champagne, along with a special message to keep for life, I got so many ideas for future wedding gifts too. They retail cheese boards, hip flasks, jewellery, sporting gifts… so many options.

This personalised Moet gift came to £59.99, which for a luxury surprise and a keepsake, I feel is very reasonable (especially if there are two or more of you going back in!)

So as for Benalmadina, how did I find it as a hen party destination? Although we were cursed with dreadful rain on the Saturday, we were blessed with glorious sunshine on Sunday and Monday, which was certainly needed.

Benalmadina is such a lovely, vibrant Spanish resort, with so many places to explore in which the sunshine is needed! In terms of accommodation, we chose to stay at the Benal Beach Hotel and Apartments, which gave us stunning sea views and a brilliant location.

The Benal Beach area is surrounded by cafes, shops and bars, and is just a short 5-10 minute taxi ride to the bustling marina.

The marina for example, is a beautiful, picturesque part of Benalmadena, filled with large luxury boats, speedboats and catamarans, all surrounded with shops , bars and restaurants. On the Sunday, we booked a speedboat trip from the marina, sailing out for 2 hours as a bit of a surprise for the hen.

If you’re looking for something fab to do on a hen weekend and you’re abroad, I can’t rave about some form of boat trip enough. I’ve only ever done sailing holidays in Greece before, which included everything from cruising the big cruise liners across all the Greek Islands, to speed boats and catamaran boats to various tourist hot spots.

A luxury catamaran/speedboat is probably the best option to go for if you’re planning a boat trip, as these can go quite fast, so you can tour a lot of places in the space of time you rent them out. Plus, they usually have that touch of luxury and premium feel that makes you feel a bit special!

All-inclusive with the boat came two bottles of champagne and a drink of your choice, which made some of us tipsier and fun, the other half more sea sick!

Sea sickness aside, it was so nice to explore the coastline out at sea on this premium speedboat, basking in the sun. We could pump up the music, sit and chat, sunbathe at the front of the boat…. such a lovely way to celebrate the hen party.

On our final night, we chose the marina again for a place to dine for our last meal. We went for Metro Ristorante, a fine fining Italian overlooking the water and the boats. This is more than ideal if there is a large group of you and you’re happy to all order from an extensive menu of pastas, pizzas, chicken dishes, meats, fish and all your standard Italian starters.

I always find that an authentic Italian is a great choice for a hen party group – lots of sharing options, like cheesy garlic and tomato breads!

I chose the most delicious pumpkin, feta cheese and sage butter ravioli, which was absolutely incredible.

Another place we chose for lunch on the Saturday was Jacks American Eatery at the marina too. So I know an American themed restaurant is hardly a touch of Espanol with tapas and chorizo’s, but this place is a fantastic location, right at the drop off point at the marina. It’s also has a super cool interior and laid back vibe, with huge tables and booths perfect for hen party gatherings. The menu is huge, and has more to offer than just American delights.

Jacks offer a mix of Mexican, British, America, Italian cuisines to name a few, and they do tasty sangria jugs packed with fruits – a great Spanish hen party sharing drink! Plus, it’s super affordable for large portions, and this place was the great ‘getting-to-know-each-other’ setting for our hen party group.

On a fashion note, I managed to wear my light grey/mauve jumpsuit from Lavish Alice whilst holidaying and partying in Benalmadina, which received so many compliments!

For those of you considering Benalmadena as a hen party destination choice, I’d also like to add it’s worthy to give CJ’s karaoke bar a visit! As cheesy and tacky as it might sound, it really did provide hours of fun on our Saturday evening, as such a good way to bond with your fellow hens over a few microphone wars and song choices!
