Until recently, I thought about silk accessories as something super luxury that we’re a real treat purchase. And although I still feel this is kinda true, I’ve been learning about the benefits of indulging in silk accessories that little more, and why it’s not sure an ‘out there’ purchase in the grand scheme of things.
First up, most of you know me as a beauty blogger. I’m also a bridal makeup artist, and someone who takes to Instagram a lot to talk about acne and skincare. Something I’ve always known is that if you use a pure silk pillowcase at night, it is shown to absorb significantly less face cream than any other fabrics. They also create almost 50% less friction compared to cotton pillowcases, which is where you get all the anti-aging benefits.
So in case you wasn’t too aware, silk accessories and indulging in those pure silk items can have tons of beauty benefits, as well as feeling plush and ‘special’. I’ve been treating my feet to some black pure silk socks from Jasmine Silk over the past few weeks, and honestly, the feeling when you pull them on against your feet…. pure bliss!
Jasmine Silk are an online retailer who specialise as a world leader for supplying only the finest high quality silk. They boast an extensive, impressive array of silk bedding sets and lovely silk bed linen, and of course, the silk socks I mentioned before (which come in a fabulous pack of 5!). Alongside these, they stock an array of stunning silk clothing and silk accessories, including silk eye masks, headbands and silk gloves.
I can’t say I’ve owned silk socks and gloves before. Satin? Perhaps. But pure silk? I guess I’ve just always seen it as a real extravagant purchase. But this is where my mindset has changed. I feel like I’m really taking care of myself when I’m slipping on my black pure silk socks and gloves, like I’m giving my skin that extra care and beauty boost.
Want to know a little more about the benefits of silk? Take a read on…
Anti aging benefits
To say we spend nearly a third of lives in bed, it’s worth thinking of the effects it can do. As mention above, silk pillowcases are shown to absorb significantly less face cream than cotton pillowcases, meaning more of our luxury creams can stay on our skin and work deep down! Plus, with less friction on our faces too, it reduces skin stretching, creases and tugging, which can be a nightmare for the delicate facial skin.
Anti sleep crease
Ever woken up with a sleep crease on your skin? It’s worse when you’ve got to jump in the car to work (or jump on Zoom, as most of us do these days!) as you have no idea how long that crease will take to fade! As the skin ages, it loses elasticity and sleep creases – which are caused by friction and pressure on facial skin – can become more pronounced and longer-lasting. Of course, the sleep crease doesn’t last more than a couple of hours tops, but if you do keep getting them, they can start to get gradually ‘ironed in’ over the years.
Sleeping on silk pillowcases is a great expert beauty tip and a long-time beauty secret. Less pressure, tugging and pulling on the skin, and more comfort, softening and smoothing.
Reduces bed head
Not only do the range of pillowcases at Jasmine Silk help to reduce bed head, the same can be said for silk headbands, too. Some of the world’s most renowned hairstylists have always raved and recommended sleeping on gentle, hair-friendly silk to help preserve your blow out. It prevents tangles and snagging, leaving hair smooth and soft, Ordinary pillowcases can cause severe hair tangling and even breakage during the night, and the same can be said for rough textured headbands and hair bobbles.
As you can see from the photos above, I’m now stocked up with my pure silk black ankle socks and my fitted silk gloves, which literally glide onto my hands and feet. Cool for the Summer as silk feels cooling and breathable, yet keeps the warmth in for this time of year (the gloves are perfect for Autumn – not too thick or bulky for the Winter chill that’s coming, and slim and sleek enough for me to use my phone and handle things easily!).
