Days Out in the UK That You Need to Do

The UK has many fantastic cities to visit which can make for a fun day out or weekend away. Many of these cities have important historical significance along with a range of cultural attractions and highlights, so there is a lot to learn in addition to a lot of fun to have. Here are a few of the best days out that you can have in the UK.


Scotland’s capital is one of the finest cities in all of Europe and somewhere that has something for everyone with important historical sites, cool culture and plenty of surrounding natural beauty. Built on a volcanic crag, you can see history all around you here with a few highlights including Edinburgh Castle, remains from the 16th century Flodden Wall, Arthur’s Seat and the National Monument of Scotland.


Chester is famous for its ancient city walls which are the oldest and most complete in all of the UK dating back an incredible 2,000 years. The walls can now be used as an enjoyable walkway which provide lovely views over the city, including the cathedral, medieval streets and the oldest racecourse in the country.


Oxford is one of the most historic, prestigious and beautiful cities in the UK. Famed for the oldest University in the English-speaking world, there are many other highlights here including Pitt Rivers museum, Bodleian library (one of the oldest in the world) and Christ Church.


York is a beautiful walled city in the northeast of England and one with a fascinating history dating back to the ancient Romans. The riverside city was William the Conquerors main base in the north and he reconstructed many Viking buildings in stone which still stand today. A few of the main historic highlights here include the breathtaking gothic cathedral, The Monk Bar gate houses and the City Walls forming a walkway on both sides of the river. York is also a good option because it is easy to reach and explore thanks to the centrally located York train station.


Another beautiful and historic city with something for everyone, Bath is well-known for its natural thermal springs and there is evidence of the Romans throughout. It is not just the Roman’s that left their mark here and the entire area is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical significance.
