Beauty: The Perfect Skincare Regime For Problem Skin

So I’m currently sat here with a face mask on, trying to steal a cheeky half an hour to let my skin get some much needed moisturising and nourishment.

Being able to look young and shining at any age is hard work. We forget too often that our face can dry out quickly, but to avoid these inconveniences at any cost, you can learn more at skin light skin bright. I know we all say we are busy, it’s an over used phrase along with ‘I have no time’ – but when I say I’m busy and have no time, I actually mean it.

Like, deadly serious. Life is so busy; juggling work, freelancing, blogging, seeing friends, family, the gym (or maybe not so much anymore)… by the time I have finished and gotten myself home, the only thing appealing is to grab a face wipe, quickly wash my face, and jump into bed. Usually at midnight. Sound familiar?

I actually told a lie there. I no longer use face wipes as they can be pretty terrible for your skin. I use Micellar Water to remove my make up, although I alternate between this and Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish.

Which brings me back to the face mask I currently have on – Liz Earle Intensive Nourishing Mask. I recently attended a lovely beauty event at The Beauty Lab, a pop-up event at The Trafford Centre, which included a talk from the Liz Earle brand itself, and really made me open my eyes to my lack of skin care recently.

I used to be really on the ball with it, and now it’s time to get back into it…

So the other week, I headed along to The Trafford Centre in Manchester to visit The Beauty Lab, a little capsule type ‘hub’ with all things beauty and fashion inside.

I took my seat and listened to a very informative talk from international facialogist and global brand ambassador for Liz Earle, Abigail James, who discussed her beauty tips. She didn’t just focus on skincare and products, she highlighted all the benefits of lifestyle and diet too, which really interests me.

I once changed my whole diet and my skin had never been clearer, so when I hear a professional confirm my personal findings too, it’s always a real pleasure to hear. The problem is, I have completely let my good habits go, and this discussion alerted me to wise up again.


Some of the tips discussed are mentioned below, as I think it’s nice to share these with you if you are thinking of your skincare and regimes, and ways in general to improve your beauty:

* Kick start your skin health by detoxing.
This doesn’t mean go on a juice diet or anything extreme – it means taking some essential steps to give your skin a break from the bad, including cutting down on your sugar and dairy intake.

* It’s an obvious one, but drink water.
And ditch your daily latte. Cow’s milk is full of hormones that play havoc with your skin, and when mixed with caffeine and sugar in a large cup portion everyday, it’s not helping your skin. Switch to hot water and lemon or green tea during your detox, or if you really can’t drag yourself away from a daily coffee, add a splash of almond milk into your coffee instead.

* Exercise.
Don’t worry about joining a gym, just half an hour a day of walking or jogging is fine, or even just being active in terms of making sure you are on the go and not sitting down all day. Aiming for a 20 minute power walk is a quick and easy way to ensure you are pumping blood to your face, promoting radiant and glowing skin.

* Drink your greens!
Super-foods such as spinach, kale and avocado are amazing for your skin. If you can’t stand the taste, make a green juice and add banana, coconut oil or manuka honey to sweeten it up.

Add a tablespoon of flaxseed to your cereal, or add spirulina to your smoothies too. Super-foods are the secret to great skincare from the inside out, so make sure you work this into your diet. I love Holland and Barrett for flaxseed and other super-foods.

* Give yourself an at-home facial
Just once a week, by massaging your favourite mask into your skin and relaxing. Really work it into your skin, gently massaging your face to encourage best results.

* Bodybrush daily
And blast yourself in the shower for 5-10 seconds with ice cold water. Doesn’t sound appealing I know… but research it! Amazing for the circulation.

After the talk, I was left to explore the hero products from Liz Earle. I have actually always been a fan of this brand, but I have only ever used the Cleanse and Polish with the muslin cloth.

I do love this staple product – it’s a worldwide favourite for a reason as it removes all make-up, dirt and oil, cleans the skin yet moisturises, and when washed off with the cloth, it promotes healthy skin that gets a gentle exfoliation and cell renewal as well as a good, thorough cleanse.

I was also introduced to their Intensive Nourishing Treatment Mask, and since the event, I have made a conscious effort to use this twice a week, as my skin gets quite dry from using overnight spot creams and all kinds of drying potions and lotions to control breakouts.

So far, so good. It leaves my skin feeling touchably soft and smooth, and did I mention just how amazing the Liz Earle products smell?
