Beauty: January Hair and Beauty Round-up

charles worthington products
I can’t believe that January is almost over already. All those exciting feelings about kick starting a brand new year are becoming washed up in a sea of mundane reality. I’m already seeing people dropping off from their January goals 4 weeks in, slipping into old habits and loosing inspirations. I went to the gym at 7am on January 4th, and joined a queue to enter the place of around 20 new faces. Now, I’m still rocking up at 7am like always, only to be joined by 4 or 5 regulars and none of the new faces. I guess they couldn’t quite stick to it!

One of my goals that I’ve been sticking to marvellously is to continue to discover new hair and beauty loves, but to keep sharing them with my readers on a daily basis. Too many times I start using a product, and it becomes part of my everyday life that sometimes I forget to feature it on here. So today’s round-up is highlighting some awesome discoveries which are perfectly in line with gifting for the upcoming Valentines Day and Mothers Day…

1. L’Occitane Beauty
I remember being at an airport a year or two ago, and trying out a sample of L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream when passing through the Duty Free. I thought nothing of it until hours later, when I was on the plane and realised my hands were super silky smooth and had a lovely little moisturised ‘sheen’ to them. Since then, I always think of this brand when people are searching for luxury product recommendations, that really do work. Because I’m a lover of all things girly and pretty, I’m super eager to try out one of their new web exclusive beauty sets from the Delicate Cherry Blossom collection. It features a soft floral scented Eau de toilette fragrance, a shower gel, a shimmering body lotion and a pretty little soap, which I know would look beautiful in my bathroom. It’s the shimmering lotion which I’m really trying to get my hands on though! If you are stuck for some beautiful looking gifts for Mothers Day (or to hint towards for Valentines Day) then I’d potentially head to L’Occitane Gift section for some gorgeous inspiration.

2. Charles Worthington Moisture Seal

I make it no secret that my hair is incredibly dry, and it’s mainly from years of lightening it and living out in Australia for a year. So when I look for hair products, the more moisturising the better in my eyes! I recently came across the Moisture Seal range from the Salon at Home collection from Charles Worthington, and have been using the entire product range, including the Moisture Seal Shampoo and Conditioner, Moisture Seal Hair Healer Leave-in Conditioner, Moisture Seal Overnight Ultimate Hair Healer, Moisture Seal Mineral Hair Rescue Masque and the Moisture Seal Intense Rescue Melting Balm. To say that the 250ml  shampoo costs just £5.99, and that the products in general are mega affordable, I expected results but nothing Earth shattering. Anyway, I have to say that when I have been using the shampoo followed by the conditioner, and have applied the leave-in conditioner before blow-drying, my hair is transformed from it’s usual parched frizz, to super slick and smooth locks. The range is brilliant at giving hair that moisture drench, which seems to last wash after wash. The masque is an absolute gem of a product, as I left this on for just 10 minutes the first time I used it, but was left with hair that didn’t even need going over the the straighteners. I’m so happy to see an affordable brand delivering such premium results. Well done Charles Worthington!

3. Soap & Glory

Ah the lovely Soap & Glory -one of those brands that never fades away. Year after year it this cult brand is still a much loved beauty brand, which I completely put down to it’s mouth watering scents and uber quirky product ranges. Plus, it’s reasonably priced, and the products I have used from Soap & Glory in the past have always performed exceptionally well. My new favourite is the Smoothie Star body spray, which is actually taking over my everyday use of perfume! I carry this around in my handbag to spritz on myself throughout the day, but I’m finding the scent is so girly, I’m using it first thing in the morning instead of my usual Givenchy parfum! It has a scrumptious fragrance blend of sweet almond and rich vanilla notes on a dreamily creamy base of sandalwood and musk. For just £4, it’s a winner in my eyes in every shape and form. Love this so much.

4. Nip& Fab

Wooop! When I finally got my hands on these two new Kale Fix products from skincare brand Nip & Fab, I was ridiculously happy. I was on my way to getting my super-food fix in the form of a clay mask and moisturiser. Kale and watercress have nourishing and moisturising properties, packed with vitamins that not only benefit the skin by being consumed internally. It seems that applying these super-foods externally is now great for skin too, which is brilliant for those who can’t really think of anything worse than chopping up some Kale leaves and sprinkling it over our salads. The clay mask (£12.95) is by far getting the most hype when I have stalked a few beauty blogs, and from using this just twice, I can see why.

The mask is a supercharged nourishing clay mask enriched with minerals and witch hazel, with a fairly thick texture which dries on the skin, drawing away impurities without drying out the skin. The addition of an advanced moisture complex helps to keep the skin’s natural barrier function to help regulate water loss, increasing hydration for the skin. I found it encouraged a brightening glow to my cheeks, and provided a fresher feel, with reduced redness and ‘blotchiness’. The moisturiser is also a complete powerhouse for skin; combining kale, watercress and almond oil for deep vitamin nourishment and to protect against dryness. It leaves skin beautifully soft and hydrated, which I also put down to it’s concentrated use of  aloe vera and shea butter, which seems to improve my skin texture a little bit too. Make-up glides on a dream after this moisturiser has sank in too, and it personally doubles up as a primer for me, leaving me shine-free throughout the day.

In case you didn’t know, Kylie Jenner is the latest ambassador for Nip + Fab, and has recently shared that her favourite product from the range in whole is the Glycolic Night Pads. I’ve used these exfoliating pads before, and although it took my skin a week or two to adjust to them (they contain 2.8 % glycolic acid which can irritate some sensitive skins, however my skin adapted within a week), they are extremely effective. The 2.8% acid works by sloughing away at the skin cells, to help re-texture and resurface, for smoother skin with reduced redness and impurities. If you have marks from past breakouts, first signs of ageing or visible sun spots, then these pads are ideal to work their magic whilst you sleep. You get 30 pads in the pot, and they cost £12.95, but are extremely worth it. If they are good enough for Kylie Jenner and all…
