Valentine’s Day is on the horizon, so now’s the time to start thinking about what you’re going to give your significant other for this special holiday. Lots of people give cards or have a bouquet of flowers delivered, which can be super lovely, but it’s potentially a little predictable…
Here are a few alternative ideas for you if you’re trying to give a gift that’s a little out of the box this year.
1. An Adventure
There’s no gift that’s more “out-of-the-box” than going on an adventure with your sweetheart. Surprise them by taking them out to do something fun, whether that be a hike or local adventure experience. After all, they say that your money is more well-spent on making memories rather than on gifts.
If you have a little more money to spend, you can always surprise your SO with a romantic travel experience. Obviously, you’re going to need to give them a little heads-up if you’re going to be traveling abroad because they might need to take time off work. But you could also surprise your SO with a lovely weekend getaway to a local spa resort.
2. A Movie Night Gift Basket
A movie night is a fun and fuss-free way to spend Valentine’s Day. Gift your sweetheart with a movie night gift basket. You can stuff your basket with:
- Popcorn buckets
- Bags of popcorn
- Bottle of Wine
There are so many different ways to watch movies nowadays. If you want to choose a title other than what’s on your Blu-Ray shelf, just use a streaming service to find the perfect Valentine’s Day flick. Be sure to gather pillows and blankets, and maybe even light some candles to set a more romantic viewing atmosphere.
3. A Quirky Delivery
Lots of people have a flower bouquet delivered for their SO on Valentine’s Day. But there are lots of other fun things you can have delivered, too! Give a sweet gift for your sweetheart and order a chocolate covered strawberries delivery. This is one of the most romantic Valentine’s Day treats and some guys might enjoy it more than flowers. Food is the way to many peoples hearts after all!
But if your SO is a total food fan, then why not do a pizza delivery? You can order a heart-shaped pizza from some pizza joints, which makes for a great movie night meal. Or just order his very favourite one, along with sides and some drinks tailored to him.
There are lots of quirky bakeries out there now that bake valentines style muffins and cakes with red love hearts inside. Have a think if he’s more into desserts or a more takeaway style meal!
4. A Nostalgic Date
Here’s a fun Valentine’s Day gift: take your SO on a surprise date, but make the date a recreation of your first date. Replay the itinerary from your first-date from beginning to end. If you can remember how you dressed on your first date, then wear the same attire. If you had dinner at a fancy restaurant, be sure to book a table well in advance—restaurants are very crowded on Valentine’s Day.
Do you think your SO will realize that you’re replaying the first date? Don’t tell them right away and wait to see if they figure it out.
5. A Furry (or Not-So-Furry) Friend
Have you and your sweetheart thinking about getting a pet? Valentine’s Day is a great time to adopt a pet that both you and your SO can shower with love. You can always buy a pet from your local pet store, but you should consider visiting your local animal shelter and adopting an animal in need.
If neither of you are much of a dog or cat person, then you might also consider getting a bird, such as the African Grey Parrots, reptile hamster, or rabbit. A fish tank might also be a fun addition to your home (you and your SO each can pick out different fish for the tank), although fish are obviously more “aesthetic pets” and not cuddly ones.
6. Event Tickets
Surprise your SO with tickets to something that you both love. If you’re both sports fans, give a couple tickets to the big game. Is there a band you both love jamming out to? Get tickets to a show. The event doesn’t even need to be on Valentine’s Day.
It also makes the perfect excuse to plan in that important date night.
7. A Photo Shoot
Schedule a romantic photo shoot so you can have lovely professional photographs of your and your sweetie. You’ll be able to post the photos on social media, or have them printed and framed for your home. You can either dress fabulously or you can go for more of a “fun” photo shoot with casual clothing and props.
Hopefully these 7 out-of-the-box ideas will inspire you. May you have a very romantic Valentine’s Day!
