Post-pandemic, certain countries in Central America have enjoyed a boom in tourism. Millions are discovering the tranquillity of the region’s rainforests, beaches and coral reefs. Its volcanic landscapes also hold a unique fascination for many.
Costa Rica
Go on a Costa Rica tour and see this breathtakingly beautiful country. Around a quarter of it is protected rainforest, where you may be treated to sights of orchids, golden fruit, spider monkeys and two-toed sloths. Exotic birds and butterflies are no rare sight here.
In the Cordillera de Tilarán, you can also see the cloud forests. These are forests that have a humidity of nearly 100% all through the year and are usually bathed in clouds.
You may also be pleased to hear that Costa Rica is widely regarded as the safest and most peaceful Central American country.
There are all kinds of fun activities to get involved with like zip-lining, white water rafting, and scuba diving.
Mexico
It would be wrong to leave Mexico out of a list of Central American holiday destinations! It has everything you could want as a tourist: An interesting culture, great food, very sunny weather in summer and stunning scenery.
Mexico City itself is an artsy place with lots to discover. There are the murals and floor-to-ceiling tableaus in the National Palace, for one thing. There are also the paintings of renowned Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera at various museums.
There is just so much to Mexico. You can explore the Mayan history in places like Chichén Itzá, an ancient city on the Yucatan peninsula built by this race. And if you think only Egypt has pyramids, you’d be wrong! Some of the Mayan sites, including this one have pyramids you can explore. The Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacan is another one where you can climb them and admire the views.
Guatemala
Guatemala is another wonderful destination for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in tropical landscape, ancient Mayan history and a different culture.
Check out Tikal National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site in the heart of the rainforest. Once, it was a major political, economic and military location for the Mayans. 57,600 hectares of tropical rainforest, wetlands and savannah make up the landscape of this national park.
The population of Guatemala is around 55% indigenous, so there are plenty of unique cultural traditions to discover. Each community represents itself in different colourful handwoven textiles and ways of dressing. They celebrate their Independence Day on 15th September. Come along at this time and see festivals full of indigenous crafts as well as firework displays and dancing into the night.
Central America has so much to offer. Whether you’ve been before or you’re coming for the first time, you’re sure to have a lot of fun.
