When it comes to eyeshadow, we all know that the prep step makes or breaks the final look. And if you didn’t know that, well now is a great time to learn! A good base means smoother application, richer colour payoff, and longer wear – which is exactly why the P. Louise Base Rumour 2.0 has gained so much attention in the beauty world.
I decided to put this popular Eyeshadow Base to the test, and as always, here’s my honest take.
First Impressions
Straight from the tube, the texture is creamy and thick, but not in a way that feels heavy or difficult to work with. Instead, it smooths across the lid with ease, blending evenly without tugging or patchiness. Unlike some primers that feel dry or chalky, Rumour Base in shade 2.0 has a luxurious consistency that still manages to set down nicely.
This is the only shade I have used of this particular base, but the shades start from the lightest (0) right up to the darkest (11) so they have quite a diverse variety to suit all skin tones. I personally find the 2.0 is a great shade if you’re a little unsure, as even those with more tanned or warmer skin tones, the blank canvas coverage it gives conceals and camouflages any redness, veins or blue tints to the eye lid, and you can then go over with a soft setting powder if you wish before applying colour.
Coverage & Finish
One of the standout features is the coverage. As mentioned above, it’s opaque enough to completely neutralise any discolouration or veins on the eyelid, leaving a flawless blank canvas for shadow. The shade itself is perfectly balanced – not too light, not too deep, making it a true neutral base that works across a variety of eyeshadow looks.
This means your shadows really pop — even lighter, pastel shades appear more vibrant, while deeper tones hold their intensity without fading.
Blendability
Despite being a thicker formula, it doesn’t feel cakey. It blends beautifully with just a brush or fingertip, although saying that I always use a brush. I also find the cream formula gives you time to work it into the skin and lid before it sets. Once it’s in place, it grips shadow perfectly without making blending a struggle. Instead of shadows skipping or catching, they layer smoothly and transition seamlessly.
It’s also worth noting that this particular base, when applied with a flat brush, is amazing for sharpening your under brow area. Carefully line the underneath of your brow with the base to really sharpen the look of your brows, and keep that contrast of brow to eyelid.
Wear Test
On the eyes, Rumour base in shade 2.0 by P Louise proves its staying power. Shadows stay put throughout the day without creasing or breaking down, even after hours of wear. I know this personally from getting feedback from bridal clients I have used it on – and after all, your wedding day is the one day you really do want your makeup staying put!
It’s the kind of base that gives confidence your look will last well into the evening without touch-ups.
Final Thoughts
The P. Louise Base Rumour Base has quickly become a makeup-bag staple – and it’s just £10 which I feel is a great price for what I’d call a multi-tasker! This is because I feel it’s great for it’s main purpose (an eyeshadow base) but also for sharpening brows and brightening the under eye area.
Its creamy yet blendable texture, full coverage, and neutral tone make it one of the best eyeshadow bases out there. Whether you’re going for a bold cut crease or a soft, blended look, it makes every shadow perform at its best.
