2020 has taken a real toll on us in a lot of ways. Other than taking many of our jobs and health – not to mention our social lives – this pandemic has also taken away confidence for a lot of people across the world.
Not being able to leave the house for so many months on end has made most of us live day to day life in our pyjamas or loungewear. I haven’t quite looked into it, but makeup and occasion wear sales must be extremely down since March this year, which is really sad for retailers and business.
I mean, most of us haven’t worn makeup for months, or made an effort with our hair, work out regimes and fitness. This can damage our sense of confidence and self worth more than we may actually be aware of.
Today, we want to just quickly touch on some ways you can start to change your beauty routine this winter and find your confidence again in this new world. We know it can be challenging, but trying out these tips might help you find your mojo and get back on track.
Learn what colours work for you
One of the first things you should do when assessing your beauty is to look at which colours suit you. This could be either clothing or makeup – and will largely depend on your skin tone. For example, if you are pale skinned with a pink hue and have red/warm toned hair, you might suit things like red, green, and purple that compliment the shade, but not colours such as orange or yellow which can wash it out. There’s loads of guides online about makeup and clothing colours that compliment your hair and skin tone, so it’s worth having a look at what works for you.

Taking the time to figure out your skin type and the colours that won’t drain you can make all the difference to your fashion and makeup, and will ultimately help you look and feel better every day.
Get to know your body shape
From losing weight to getting cosmetic surgery – we all want to try and find the perfect body for us that makes us happy. However this winter, consider simply learning what your body shape is right now and how to dress yourself for it. Don’t stress about losing weight or having a complete transformation – the current lockdown and tier’s that are taking place can be more than enough of a stress.
For example, if you have a bust that is 34; a waist that is 26; and hips that are 36; you can call yourself a pear shape. Knowing this, you can look for clothes that flatter this shape such as bodycon dresses, and find ways to balance your shape such as wearing peplum on the top and something figure hugging on the bottom. Learning your body shape allows you to find clothing that compliments your body in every way.
If you are petite and slim, try adding volume and shape with high waisted trousers and jeans that add length, or bootcut jeans to add some shape.
Understand your skin type
It is important when trying to improve your beauty routine that you look after your skin in the right way. To do this, you need to learn what your skin type is, and there is a simple way for you to do this. Wash your face with nothing but water and a little bit of soap/cleanser, and wait for 15 minutes without touching it or applying anything. If you have oil appearing, or a shiny T-Zone, you have oily skin. If you have some patches of oil and dry patch’s perhaps on your cheeks, you have combination skin. If your skin feels tight and dry, you have dry skin.
Invest in a full skincare regime, including a cleanser, serum, moisturiser and face mask that will treat and boost your current skin concern.
Make your hair shine
A clever way to improve confidence when you are at home is to start using protective hairstyles to help your hair grow thick and strong. Protective styles can be worn either during the day or at night and will help you to protect your hair from the elements outside while it grows.
They will help you maintain strong hair as it grows, reducing snapping and snagging, and your hair will eventually become thicker. Some protective hairstyle are different braids, a ballerina bun, or a top knot. The less you touch and mess with your hair, the stronger and more resilient it will become. Try avoiding the hairdryer or styling tools when you’re simply working from home and not heading out, too.
The stronger and healthier your hair will become, the more shinier you’ll find it!
