Raising a family means you’re always watching the clock. Everything you do is set to a rapid schedule and there’s always something that’s making you lag behind. Getting to school on time, making that doctor’s appointment, birthday parties, reaching the supermarket before it closes, football practice, dance recitals, lunch, dinner, bedtime routines…it’s hardly surprising that the average family spends most of their week rushing from one place to another.
Finding ways to save time on your everyday routine will not only make your day more efficient, but you’ll find more time to spend together as a family and enjoy the time you have with your children. You’ll be less stressed, in a more productive mood and feel less burnt out by bedtime! Here I’ve gathered my favourite time-saving tips for busy families.
Switch to a combi boiler
It might sound like a dramatic change, but when you’re in a busy household switching to a combi boiler just makes sense. A traditional, conventional boiler means waiting around for your hot water to build – that means showers, baths, and even the dishes have to wait until the boiler has done its job. Installing a combi baxi 800 means you’ll not only have hot water on demand, but your entire heating system will be much more efficient, and it’ll keep your energy costs down

Deal with your post straight away
The rattle of the letterbox usually means more bills, adverts, hospital appointments or admin. It’s frustrating but leaving it until later only means more stress as you try to shoehorn those appointments and tasks into your already crammed schedule. As soon as the letters land, deal with them straight away.
Never leave a room empty-handed
Everything should have its own place, but when you have young children those things get strewn around and placed in all sorts of locations. My best rule for this is to never leave a room empty-handed. That jumper you spotted on the chair? Take it upstairs with you. Those toy cars on the floor in the kitchen? Put them in the toybox as you head to the living room. This approach will help you keep on top of your clutter and reduce time spent tidying up.
Have an active “charity” box
A cluttered home is a stressful home. Going through your wardrobe you might spot a dress you no longer want – rather than spending time sifting through your clothing in the future, set up an active charity box so that you can toss these things into it as you go. This applies to everything, from toys and clothes to books and bric-a-brac. The less cluttered your home is, the less stress you’ll be under and the faster you’ll find what you need.
And finally, check your diary every day!
You might be in a good routine of writing down those appointments and commitments in your diary, but if you forget all about them in the meantime, it means nothing. Get into the habit of checking your diary every single day and you’ll know what you’ve got coming up.
