Summer in the UK is in full swing – but it won’t be long before things are winding down, and the clocks are changing again. So, what should we do if we’d like to make the most of the warmer weather while we can? There are a few activities that are naturally a good match for the warm weather.
Photography
One of the great things about summer is that the outdoors is much more pleasant to be out and about in. As such, if you’re looking to take up nature photography, now is a great time to do it. What’s more, if you’re an early bird you can benefit in taking advantage of the so-called ‘golden hour’ when things really do look marvellous.
Sport
Certain sports come into their own during hot weather, such as golf and tennis. If you’re feeling up for a few rounds on the tennis courts or a day on the green, then it’s a great idea to do it during a spell of warm weather. Both sports can be expensive to get into – but with the right planning and preparation, you might find that you can get the essential equipment without spending too much. In the case of golf, you’ll just need a set of basic clubs and, of course, different golf bags.
If you decide that you’d like to stick with the sport, you might then invest in more esoteric clubs, like fairway woods.
Hiking
If you’d like to explore the beautiful countryside to which you have access, then hiking is a great way to do it. The UK is packed with hills, rivers and forests, each ripe for exploration. Hiking is another activity with very few barriers to entry, especially during summer. You’ll just need the right pair of boots and lightweight clothing. Once you get more experienced, you can start to conquer some of the longer routes, and the higher peaks.
Gardening
Getting out into a green space can be beneficial for a range of reasons. First, you’ll be outdoors, soaking up the vitamin D from the sunshine. Second, you’ll be getting physical exercise – because mowing lawns, tending flowerbeds, and trimming hedges come often be a bit of a workout. Thirdly, you’ll be surrounded by greenery, which has a proven positive effect on mental health. And finally, you’ll be able to grow edible plants that you can then take back into the kitchen.
A well-tended garden will also add to the value of your house, which makes maintenance a worthwhile step if you’d like to sell in the near future.
The warmer months don’t have to be just about sunbathing and beer gardens. Enjoy those extra doses of vitamin D whilst living life to the max with new, and fulfilling activities that can stay with you for years to come.
