Holidays abroad sound like a distant memory. With restrictions eased, many chose to do a staycation, with Cornwall becoming the destination of choice. However, due to the influx of visitors during the summer months, people are urged to stay away as the county faces a rise in cases.
Some are choosing to book a holiday abroad, relishing the opportunity to spend time in another country where the climate is warmer than here at home.
If you are looking to plan a vacation somewhere abroad this autumn, here are a few ways to prepare for your trip to ensure you remain safe and healthy.
Know Where Your Destination Stands On The Watchlist
The watchlist or the green, amber, amber plus and red system categorise the safety of countries in terms of their infection rates. Each colour has different restrictions, including what tests need to be completed and if you need to quarantine upon arrival back to the UK. As you look for somewhere to travel, check the government watchlist to see where you could go on a holiday.
Although the watchlist indicates how safe it is to travel to certain countries, it applies to what you need to do once you return. It does not cover the restrictions of the country you are entering. For instance, Australia might be on the green list however, the borders are closed. There are also restrictions in place for those entering the country. Included in these restrictions are entering a 14-day quarantine at a hotel.
See If A Vaccine Passport Is Required
Whilst some countries might be on the green list but are not letting people enter, other countries have other requirements that need to be met.
Many of the countries on the green and amber list will allow you to travel to the country if you have been fully vaccinated. If you have been fully vaccinated, you will have to show proof that you have received both jabs. To prove that you have been vaccinated, you can either use the NHS app or request a letter by calling the NHS 119 helpline.
Know Where To Get Tested
If you have booked flights and accommodation separately, you will have to book a private covid test for travel for your holiday. It will cost to book a private covid test for travel, the prices will vary depending on the type of test you decide to book. Some countries might accept a lateral flow test, most will require you to show a negative covid test.
Similar to the UK, many countries abroad will have restrictions and guidelines in place. They have been set to keep their people safe during these uncertain times. Before you travel, check to see what guidelines they currently have in place so that you can be respectful of how the government in your chosen destination are keeping their infection rates down.
Once you have arrived and settled in your accommodation, you can begin to enjoy your time abroad after a rollercoaster year.
