Fashion Bloggers Turn Designers

There was a time when bloggers were just bloggers. They had an internet connection and a good dose of creativity, and that was about it.

Oh how the times change! The fashion industry have finally realised over the last few years that when it comes to craving creativity and seeking unique shots of everyday stylish people, there’s only one place to turn to for first hand style stories – The Fashion Bloggers.

And as a fashion blogger myself, I am definitely a fan of these designer raving, photo snapping writers. The Sartorialist’s blog started it all in 2005, where his photographs of stylish New Yorker’s earned him a huge fan base. Now, The Sartorialist takes photos all over the world, snapping punks in Soho, retro Londoners,  to the trendy Tokyo types. A book is now being published.

At the tender age of 13, Tavi Gevinson shot to blogging fame with Stylerookie, and you can now see her sitting on the front row of all kinds of catwalks. The “tiny 13-year-old dork”, as Tavi describes herself, has even been nominated the true star of New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 09 by The Guardian. And then there’s Susie Lau, known for her popular blog Stylebubble, where 10,000 people click on her website to read what she thinks about fashion. Building up her reputation as a true British fashion icon, Susie is now editor of

And it doesn’t stop there! London-based fashion label Borders and Fronters have also joined the bloggers fan club bandwagon, by launching themselves on ASOS with a collection of  environmentally friendly t-shirts designed by our beloved bloggers. Each T-Shirt is printed with the bloggers individual design, signature, and link to their website. The selection forms part of the new Green Room section at ASOS, a dedicated area showcasing brands that promote people and the planet.

Launching at this time also is ASOS Africa, a brand which will feature a collection in collaboration with artisans and small communities in Kenya and Tanzania. Keep checking for new eco-friendly collections.
