A couple of weeks ago, I had the fabulous opportunity to shoot with Intu Potteries, based in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, for their A/W18 fashion campaign.
Intu Potteries is a huge shopping centre, packed with all your favourite High Street brands, giving an extensive shopping experience. You’ve got your classic faves, such as New Look, Topshop, Debenhams, NEXT, H&M and Primark, and then you have a range of more niche stores, like Jack & Jones, Lovisa (great for accessories!) Schuh, Ann Summers, etc.
This season, the shopping centre is focusing on the four major trends for autumn fashion. I was chosen to work alongside Intu Potteries to showcase two very exciting trends: Check, and Silver Partywear. They were also focusing on the gorgeous ‘Rust’ trend, and the ever so popular Animal Print.
So today’s post is all about the Check trend. It may have been over 20 years ago since Clueless got us all hooked on saying ‘as if’, but the hit film’s sartorial influence is still going strong. Those checks are going nowhere this season. But perhaps we’ll leave out the bright yellow.
This autumn, we’re channelling Cher and Dionne’s iconic checked outfits and the good news is, they are appearing in everything from oversized coats to tailored skirts. And it looks like all our High Street favourites are bringing the check print back big time.
As you can see from the photo above, check accessories are HUGE. Woolly scarfs, rucksacks and sneakers bring a bit of fun and playful vibes to the trend, whilst smart Winter coats, pinafore dresses and styled skirts appear grown-up.
So, lets take a look first of all at what my favourite item from the A/W18 Check trend was, which I was lucky enough to style up with Intu Potteries…
This outfit above is all from Primark – a place I shop a lot due to it’s fast fashion, affordable pieces which are always bang on trend. This oversized styled coat is fabulous, and cost just £30. I love it, so easy to wear, super comfy, and right on trend with the Autumnal checks. Both in print, and in colourway.
The dress below is also from Primark, which has been layered here over a black high neck top also from Primark. It’s lovely that the check trend can be used to layer up and be muted down when it needs to be. There is nothing wrong with a matching check top and bottom, but the more softer, paired down styling is much more wearable.
And as this dress is in lovely shades of grey and brown, it’s easy to pair with almost anything! Plus, it costs just £13.
The boots here are also from Primark! I’ve listed the items below so it’s easier to see:
Check Dress – £13
Black Top – £10
Black Boots – £13
Black Bag – £8
This next outfit is taking on more of a pastel colourway, but still rocking those check prints. This beautiful outfit is from Topshop, and again, I’ve listed the prices for each one below. I LOVE wearing pink, and who knew how well it would go with blue check?
Pink Top – £12
Check Skirt – £32
But here is the best item I think really shows off the check trend: a super stylish Winter coat!
This outfit above is all about the coat in my opinion. It literally does all the talking! It’s from Red Herring at Debenhams, and is incredible warm as well as looking so so fashionable. Again, here’s a full list below:
Check Coat – £69, Red Herring
Jeans – £26.99, QUIZ
Boots – £49, QUIZ
Jumper – £36, Oasis
I also styled up some sassy silver party wear, which I’ll share with you all next week. Let me know what you think of the check trend too!
