We have the most exciting news on the horizon… in six weeks time our new build home should be ready, and it will be time to finally own a house together with my partner! We have both had our own homes for a few years, but are now buying together and setting up a new home with our little girl in Congleton, Cheshire.
We’re trying to move with very little belongings, starting a whole new ‘fresh’ once in the new place. With that in mind, one of the first rooms of the new home I’m planning is the spare room – I want it to be cosy but fairly minimal, light and airy but modern and stylish. To get started on it, I’ve been clearing out the spare room in our current home, and updating the bedding and furnishings to reflect what the new spare room will look like in the new house.
Everyone wants a spare bedroom to look inviting and relaxing for guests, as well as a neat and tidy room to enjoy yourself, even when no one is staying in it. We double ours up as a reading room, a work office from time to time, and for when we want some peace and quiet/break from each other! So it’s quite important to us it’s fuss-free and minimalistic, but with a cosy and homely vibe.
This week, I’ve been giving the spare room double bed a makeover, updating the bedding and styling of the bed and it’s surroundings in preparation for moving everything into the new house. Honestly, when I tell you more about the duvet set I have for the bed, you’ll absolutely love it. I can’t understand why I’ve never been introduced to this invention before among the world of bedding – for me this duvet set is a real game changer!
First of all, who absolutely detests changing the bedding on your beds? It’s a job I put off until the very end of the day, but then whine at myself for stuffing my duvet into the duvet covers at 11pm at night when all I want to do is jump into a freshly made bed. Well this is why the Night Owl Natural Cotton Waffle is just so genius! I’ll tell you a little secret too – obviously when you take anything out of the package it’s been delivered to you in, it’s going to crease a little, so I actually used a brand new steamer I have from a brand called Steamery ran lightly over the duvet, and got a super smooth finish! I have NEVER been one to iron bedding etc, and I wasn’t thinking I ever would. But I decided to try the steamer lightly over this new duvet and it worked an absolute treat. Who knows, I may start steaming my bedding more often from now!
As you can see from the photos, the duvet is a soft, plain sustainably sourced cotton reverse, with a stylish textured waffle top which not only looks visually pleasing, but works for both comfort and tactility. For even more convenience, I found out that you can just pop your Night Owl duvet in the washing machine when ready to refresh. Just pop the whole thing into the washing machine and it’s quick to dry in as little as 120 minutes! You’re probably realising by now this is a real handy item, right?
From having a read up about this duvet over at Fine Bedding Co, I saw a great tip that the brand shared. They advised to use a cotton flat sheet between yourself and the coverless duvet, to reduce the frequency of washing. I think I would do this more so too during the colder months, as this duvet is a 10.5 tog, and if you like your bedding super thick and cosy during the Winter months, you might want to pop an extra sheet underneath it for an extra layer too.
However, for Autumn, Spring and Summer, I probably won’t bother with an extra sheet, unless as the tip advises, I want to prolong the washing life.
Another great use for this duvet is for when we have little guests staying over, like my niece and nephew who will no doubt be having some sleepovers with my little girl when we move into the new house! It’s handy to have this duvet to hand for them if they all want to sleep on blow up beds etc, and I can just hand them this super comfy duvet without having to ‘make it up’ and put together if that makes sense! So really, if you didn’t have it on your main bed, it’s a very handy addition to keep rolled up in your airing cupboard or wardrobe or wherever you keep your spare bedding.
However, I am very much enjoying using this beautiful waffle duvet in our spare room. It gives a calming and relaxed vibe to the room, as well as looking very modern and ‘on-trend’.
