After years of working in beauty PR before finally making the leap into full time blogging, I’ve been banging on about Retinol for a serious amount of time now. I was first introduced to the wonders of Retinol around 4 years ago, when I was in my mid/late twenties and searching for skincare ingredients which help acne, yet also help early signs of fine lines and wrinkles.
And then a year or so later, I realised my pigmentation was diabolical, and that was certainly the next ‘problem’ I had to deal with, too.
So Retinol came along to save my day, and it seems that from doing a lot of research, it’s a bit of a hero ingredient.
I thought it might help a little if I – god forbid – share a couple of photos of my face without makeup, so you can see my pigmentation and marks on my skin.
It’s with this that I have to rave about the newest launch from Alchimie Forever. The brands Advanced Retinol Serum is a powerful formula serum that effectively reduces fine lines, dark spots and free radical damage.
But the main point I wanted to share with you all is that it features 0.75% of Retinol – which is pretty high when you consider that you can’t usually get that high a percentage from over-the-counter skincare products.
It uses two types of retinol with time-release technology, providing a gentle application to the skin. Meanwhile, a cocktail of antioxidants such as apple stem cell extract and green tea are also packed in to target sun damage and to rejuvenate the skin.
Lets take a look at the products key ingredients:
- Retinol: targets fine lines and wrinkles
- Vitamin C: lightening and anti-aging effects
- Hyaluronic Acid: hydrating properties
- Green Tea: lightening and anti-aging effects
- Apple Stem Cells Extract: anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties
In a nutshell, if you have signs of ageing in the form of fine lines and wrinkles (which most women from 25 up do have, unfortunately), age spots, acne marks and pigmentation, you’re going to see a benefit from this powerful product.
It’s advised to use just a pea-sized amount in the evening to clean, dry skin on face and neck, avoiding the eye area, two to three times per week. Follow with a moisturiser if desired.
For those with sensitive skin, it’s recommended to start off using once per week to allow the skin to get used to it, and then gradually work up to recommended frequency of use.
Flaking and redness may be possible the first few times you use it, and I know that on my second application, I did experience some redness. Luckily, I didn’t get any flaking.
So how have I found it?
I’ve been using around twice a week for two month now, and I find it a really nice, lightweight retinol to use on my skin. I’m overly impressed at the lack of redness and flaking as I honestly was abut unsure if this would agree with me or not. But so far, absolutely no worries whatsoever!
I obviously don’t have ironed out fine lines from two months of using this, but I have noticed my overall complexion is firmer and clearer – my red marks less angry, and my skin in general looks more clarified and less angry.
To touch, my skin is feeling firmer, and in general it’s almost like my face just looks ‘softer’, if that makes sense?
It costs around the £75 mark from Beauty Expert, which makes sense because you’re getting a very high percentage of retinol in this product – much more than with any others.
I’m already a fan of Alchimie Forever, and you can find some of my other reviews here if you’d like to know a little more about the brand!
