As the leaves turn to warm shades of amber and the air becomes crisp and inviting, it’s time that I start thinking of refreshing my wardrobe with the latest autumn/winter 2023 fashion trends. Whether I’m looking for fashion-forward trendsetter pieces or more relaxed, stylish staples to keep me comfy during the colder months, I try to look for timeless pieces that are more classic and can see me right through the season – and onto the next year too!
In today’s post, I’m sharing some new items I’ve currently added to my wardrobe from Very.co.uk. I was really impressed with their current A/W 2023 offering online, which I picked with a few key trends in mind. As mentioned, I was looking for relaxed, classic pieces, which lead me to explore trends including jumpsuits, denim dresses and midi dresses, as well as casual overalls.
I have to admit, I’m a huge denim fan, and it’s been nice to try and style up other denim pieces besides my usual jeans!
Jump for Joy in Jumpsuits:
Jumpsuits are making a big comeback this autumn/winter season, and Very.co.uk has a fantastic selection of jumpsuits for women to choose from. These one-piece wonders effortlessly blend comfort and style, making them the perfect addition to your cold-weather wardrobe, and I actually don’t currently own any casual ones – just slinky ones for evenings out! I browsed the site and instantly loved the PixieGirl Petite Zip Front Jumpsuit. I would say it falls more under the utility jumpsuit trend, therefore I paired it with some Adidas Grand Court trainers and went for a very simple style.
Some of the standout trends in jumpsuits for 2023 include:
a. Utility Jumpsuits: Channel your inner adventurer with utility jumpsuits in earthy tones. These jumpsuits often feature practical pockets, cinched waists, and a relaxed fit that is both functional and fashionable.
b. Velvet Jumpsuits: For a touch of luxury, consider a velvet jumpsuit. This fabric is perfect for autumn and winter, as it adds warmth and a rich, opulent feel to your outfit.
c. Patterned Jumpsuits: Break away from traditional solid colors and opt for a patterned jumpsuit. From florals to animal prints, these pieces bring a pop of personality to your wardrobe.
Denim Dresses: The Classic Reinvented:
Denim is a timeless fabric that never goes out of style, and this season, denim dresses are in the spotlight. I searched Very.co.uk to have a look at their range of denim dresses, and came across various styles and finishes, but as I was looking for one that would suit me for both casual and dressier occasions, the selection was easy! I just loved the shape and fit of this PixieGirl Petite Denim Button Through Belted Dress, which I’ve styled with both trainers and some beautiful nude sling back shoes. I’ve also paired it with a large material tote bag to give it more of a relaxed feel.
The tie waist makes the dress feel super fitted, and when paired with the low heels, I could easily wear this for drinks with friends, a meal out, or a pre-christmas occasion.
Here are a few ways to embrace the denim dress trend if you’re considering looking at a new denim dress addition to your wardrobe.
a. Shirt Dresses: Opt for a denim shirt dress for a chic, effortless look. Layer it with tights and ankle boots for a fashionable yet comfortable outfit.
b. Denim Midi Dresses: Midi-length denim dresses are versatile and can be dressed up or down. Pair them with heels for a night out or sneakers for a day of casual elegance.
c. Ruffled Denim Dresses: If you’re feeling playful, try a denim dress with ruffle details. This adds a feminine touch to the rugged fabric.
Midi Dresses: The Quintessential Length for Fall/Winter:
Midi dresses continue to reign supreme this season, and I’ll tell you a secret as to why I cannot get enough of a good midi dress for women. I’m only 5 ft 3, and maxi dresses can sometimes tend to swamp the shorter figure, although I think they look incredible on taller ladies. Mini dresses can work wonders but you have to be careful about not wearing shoes with an ankle strap, or ankle boot, which can give an illusion of shorter legs. With midi dresses, you’ve got the dress falling below the knee and skimming the calf, therefore it’s never going to swamp you, yet it’s great if you don’t want to show your needs or any upper leg. I think for me, wearing maxi dresses is successful when I’ve got a great pair of platform wedge heels to hand!
I find midi dresses, when paired with some pretty heels (mainly ones that don’t cut off at the ankle, and nude ones definitely work a treat) can give the illusion of a longer silhouette. So I had a look on Very.co.uk and saw that they offered a stunning array of choices, mainly across brands such as New Look, XX and XX. The midi length in general is versatile, keeping you warm while allowing you to show off your favourite footwear and look classy. This one that I’m wearing here is from New Look and is the Tortoiseshell Print Satin Wrap Dress.

a. Sweater Midi Dresses: Stay snug in style with sweater midi dresses. These are perfect for chilly days and can be accessorized with a belt for a cinched look.
b. Floral Midi Dresses: While florals are often associated with spring, they are making a statement this autumn and winter. Look for darker, richer floral patterns to embrace the season.
c. Turtleneck Midi Dresses: Keep your neck warm and your style hot with turtleneck midi dresses. These dresses are perfect for creating a chic, layered look.
Casual overalls
Calling all those who love a good all-in-one! I mean, as well as making getting dressed much easier, all-in-ones can look really trendy. If you pick the right jumpsuit, overall or dungaree outfit for your personality, they can look effortlessly stylish without even trying. I personally have always been a fan of dungarees, but haven’t worn them for ages. But with the casual overall trend becoming more popular for A/W ’23, I decided to opt for a pair of denim dungarees in a light/mid wash denim shade, and layer over a simple long sleeve white top. I’m a huge fan of basics, because you can literally keep wearing them over again, and matching them with different items as the seasons pass. These Lucy Mecklenburgh Denim Dungarees from Very.co.uk are so comfy, and I know I can dress them over a sweater when the months get colder, or a short sleeve tee when the weather gets nicer in Spring.
By the point, I’ll probably be looking at getting some pastel coloured denim dungarees for Spring too, seeing as I love the style and fit so much.
