Whether you are an actor, performer or a model, you will be facing auditions from time to time. The good news is that there are a ton of ways that you can stand out during the audition process so that you can get the role you’re going for. It doesn’t have to be a treacherous process to get the job that you want, and when you have the right tips to get you through the audition, you’ll know how much you can really stand out. 

When you walk into that room, you want to know that you are going to be the best person that they see that day. This is a job that is going to help you to build your reputation, and that matters a lot! With this in mind, here’s some of the best ways that you can stand out at your audition.

How To Succeed at Auditions

1. You need a headshot photographer. You can send in a resume for your audition application, but that’s not going to be a ‘stand out’ thing to give them. Pages of text are exactly what everyone else is going to be doing. Sending in headshots taken by a professional is the smartest thing that you can do to stand out because they’re going to be instantly taken in by your professional photos. It’s your face that’ll stand out in their mind, and you need that to succeed.
   
2. Get prepared as much as possible. Not only do you want to be physically and vocally warmed up, you need to have more than one copy of your resume and headshot  – just in case they request more than one. You need to have prepared yourself for what your audition needs from you. Understand your new project and what the script is asking of you and be aware of the people who are auditioning you. 
   
3. Don’t be late. You need to prepare yourself to be walking in that door 15-20 minutes BEFORE the audition. You want to know that you are going to be remembered for being on time for your audition. Lateness makes you memorable, but not for a good reason!
   
4. Dress the part. It doesn’t matter what the character is, you can dress in a way that shows a little bit of them. Obviously, you don’t have to show up in a ballgown to play the Queen, but turning up wearing something classy is important. Be respectful in your dress and you’ll be able to show off a little of what you know of the role.
   
5. Be confident in your ability. Going in with nerves is normal, but you will find that you need to wear your confidence so that you can be at ease during the audition. Don’t seek out validation: they asked you to come to interview, so they know you have the skills. They just want to see them!
   
6. Don’t forget: you’re auditioning them, too. As much as you want the part, you need to make sure that you don’t forget to ask relevant questions about the characters and the script. You won’t be wasting time.
