A holiday table is a special setting and should be celebrated as such. However, creating a Christmas table is not an easy feat. There are so many opportunities to go wrong with your design, especially if you want to add some personalization into the mix. Here are some tips for creating a festive and unique Christmas table that will have everyone excited about all of the delicious food on offer.
Centrepiece That Reflects Your Style
Create a centrepiece that reflects your style or the occasion by using greenery, flowers, fruits & nuts, pine cones and other decorations to create a unique space for you and those who will share this special time together. Be sure it is functional as well as beautiful. Remember, people need to be able to reach their food easily.
Flameless Candles
If possible, use flameless candles (battery operated) instead of real ones, so there isn’t any worry about an open flame during meals. They look just like the real thing but are safer for children and pets if they bump into them accidentally or knock them over while playing under the table. You can also purchase battery operated LED lights to add to your centrepiece and around the table.
Alternative Ways To Use Candles
Another way to safely use candles is with votive holders or small hurricane lanterns. Then you can place a candle in each one of them and turn off the room light so that only these lit up create an attractive glow all through dinner. Plus, they give just enough light for people to see their food. And remember, never leave burning candles unattended no matter how safe it seems because there are many children running around during this time who could knock into them if not watched carefully.
The Sparkle Effect
Glittering glassware will make everything sparkle. Fill stem glasses half full of water before adding wine or champagne. Even sparkling cider looks festive in clear glass goblets. Just don’t forget to remove the water before adding your beverage of choice.
Out Of The Box Decorations
Decorations don’t always need to be traditional. Think outside the box by using bright colours or patterns instead of basic reds and greens. You can even use nature as inspiration by adding leaves from your yard onto garlands or using fresh flowers in vases.
Split Up A Big Group
If you’re hosting a large group, consider having two tables. This will help keep the mood light and ensure that no one’s feelings get hurt when people start eating. You can even place an ornament or decoration on each table so everyone knows where they are sitting.
Customise Sweet Sensations
Take advantage of your theme by choosing dishes with related colours, like red velvet cake. Then, create themed desserts for every course. This could be something like chocolate oranges at the beginning, peppermint bark as a second dessert after having some turkey butterfly, etc. This is also another opportunity to use nature as inspiration since fruit makes excellent desserts too. In addition, candy cane options make perfect garnishes for coffee drinks later in the night.
Keep It Neutral
For the sake of keeping your sanity, avoid matchy matchy decorations. Nobody wants to eat at a table that makes them feel like they’re in kindergarten. Instead, opt for neutral colours or patterns so you can switch up decor as needed without spending hours trying to find new things every time. And if all else fails, holly and snowflakes are always welcome on Christmas tables.
Lovely tips! Found some good ideas to try this year. I often use flowers in my Christmas table centerpiece. As long as I work in a flower delivery company, fresh flowers are all around me, and using them in Christmas decoration is the most natural thing.
Splitting a big group often happens to me. I always prepare separate “children” and “adults” tables because often the kids are more than the adults – family and friends with big families gathered for a lunch or dinner often happens here:)
