Due to budget or personal choice, your rooms, or even home itself, may be smaller than average. This may mean that you need to come up with some creative ways to make each room your own, and give them a bit of a personal touch, without making them seem cramped. To accomplish this, you may need to consider all the aspects that the room has to offer, including ways to make the most of the vertical space. Something as simple as considering the windowsills and walls when decorating can go a long way to making each room have a bit more character.
Wall Canvases
Even though some rooms may be smaller than you might ideally like, that doesn’t mean that your walls need to remain cold and with no personality. Painting the walls white, or another light colour can help to give the room a much larger feel. For decorations, you may wish to consider hanging some personal pictures. You can get various sizes canvas prints from a singular feature piece, to an array of sizes for a more unorthodox, quirky feel. Either way, they can help to showcase the things you love most in life, including images of your friends, family, and pets, as well as other pictures you might have taken while out and about, making them one of a kind.
Alternatively, leaving a wall white and blank behind a statement feature like a ‘wow’ sofa is also a great idea for space illusion.

Floor Space
Although your floor space may be limited, that doesn’t mean it needs to be left barren. There are ways that you can make the most of walking areas without making them look overly crowded. Something as simple as a tastefully designed rug can add a bit of flair. As with the walls, you may want to again opt for a lighter design, to help prevent the room from feeling less spacious than it is. Pairing the design with the colour schemes found around the rest of the room can also help make these additions look that bit smarter. Tall lamps may also give you that extra bit of light or design, without taking up an overly large amount of space.
Horizontal Space
Throughout the room, you may have what is known as ‘horizontal space’. This could be via shelving, windowsills, and even table surfaces. Making the most of this space with photo frames, smaller ornaments, and even plants can help to give it more of a personal touch. When doing so, be mindful of not crowding these surfaces with items, as this may again make the area feel enclosed, as well as become a nightmare when it comes to cleaning and dusting. Again, items could be chosen based on how they look against other furniture or colour patterns that you already have in that particular room.
Adding items of personal value to the rooms of your small house can make it feel like home, no matter the size. Injecting a bit of yourself into your living space can also help you and your family to feel more comfortable, and to appreciate your rooms that bit more.
