Self-isolation due to the coronavirus is a necessary measure, but this does not mean that you should do nothing but lie on the couch. There are so many interesting things to do at home, from watching your favorite movies and thinking about businesses to start, to casinos not on gamstop, and hobbies like art or even knitting.
If you’re a little stuck though and don’t know what to do during self-isolation, don’t despair. Here, we’ve put together some ideas which can help you pass the time usefully. As we still have a long way to go until normality, these ideas should last for several weeks of self-isolation…
Needlework
There are many types of needlework. Here are just a few options: decoupage, soap making, scrapbooking, quilling, sewing, embroidery, knitting and crochet. If you have wanted to try something new within the knitting and needlework area– now is the time. Getting into knitting and needle work is a lovely way to allow you to be distracted from a busy mind or any problems, as it’s a very therapeutic hobby!
Plus, if you get good, you can even look at selling your products.
Online games
This is a must-have not only for long winter evenings, but also for quarantine and any time spent alone away from friends! There are so many games online you can play with your friends remotely, such as fight in “Monopoly”, build a castle in “Carcassonne”, plot a route by rail, or even play some of your favourite slots in https://www.newonline-casinos.co.uk/
You’ll struggle to find anything as uplifting or engaging as creative hobbies, like art. The simplest options include drawing, painting and modeling (you can sculpt from plasticine, salt dough etc). Watch a few video tutorials to get started if you need a push!
Lettering and calligraphy
The art of writing beautiful letters is known as calligraphy, which involves creating unique fonts and lettering. You can also work on this via computer graphics and compute design, in which your lettering can be used in web design, creating posters, menus, wedding invitations, and stickers. A great way to practice is to print out copies of your favourite fonts to trace over, but make sure you have enough ink in your printer first!
Reading books
Reading books never gets old. It’s a relaxing hobby that can widen your mind and enhance knowledge. Of course, most people now prefer to read from gadgets, like a Kindle, but if you have a decent library at home or a solid book collection, it is better to pick up a paper book than to simply read from a screen.
Dances
Dancing is fun and really lifts those bad moods. And, you don’t have to be good at dancing to do it! Just turn on the happy music and let your soul take over! You can dance solo, with your partner or even your children. And if you wish to take it a little further, you can learn a ‘proper’ dance (waltz, tango) with your other half.
Karaoke and guitar songs
If you can play the guitar (or any musical instrument), why not entertain yourself by playing and singing? You can sing your favorite songs to the backing track. Or, learn acoustic versions of some classic hits and train your voice at the same time. Try recording videos to assess your progress!

Home theatre
If you love films, performances and theatre shows, then why not try to create a home theater? Take a fairy tale story, a simple play, and distribute the roles among the family. Spend your days rehearsing them and acting out the storyline. You can implement a puppet theater, shadow theater, make your own vision – the scope for creativity is huge! This activity will definitely attract all family members, but especially children.
Reading and writing poetry
Love poetry? Well, you can always arrange a poetry evening, where each member of the family will read their favorite poem, maybe even their own composition. Or pick up poems on a specific topic: the time of year, love, friendship. You can even work on creating your own poem masterpieces and making them into cards or prints.
Cooking
Have you been wanting to try a new dish for a long time? The time has come! During lockdown, it’s the ideal time to brush up your skills with cooking and baking. You can bake a tricky cake, make an unusual dessert, a delicious drink, a delicious main course – whatever you want! Yummy food always lifts the mood.
Home repairs
When spending lots of time indoors at home, it’s an ideal time to start getting home repairs done! Take a little analysis of all your cabinets, worktops, doors, wardrobes…. and see if they can be updated cosmetically.
Or, use this space to throw out your old, over-worn furniture that no longer is needed in the home. You’ll feel amazing once it’s out of the home!
Update your wardrobe
Save some time aside to completely overhaul your wardrobe. There’s nothing better than approaching a new season – in which Spring is coming – and adding fresh new clothes to your wardrobe. You can use the opportunity to clear out clothes no longer wanted, and give them to charity.
General cleaning
It’s not as much fun as the previous options, but the monotonous work of cleaning can work wonders to calm the nerves, and it’s much nicer to spend time in a clean house during quarantine.
Play with pets
Our pets are very happy that the owners of the house are finally spending more time at home. More time to be pampered, and more time for play! Enjoy the time by cuddling and playing with them, whether it’s dogs or cats that you have.
Meditation
Meditation is huge right now, with people learning the art of it to slow down and calm the mind. By engaging in meditation, you’ll learn that it has long been proven to increase the immune system, improve intellectual abilities, and balance the nervous system.
Yoga mornings
If you prefer the art of stretching and breathing over a hardcore cardio workout, look to start the day with yoga. You can start off gradually for 10-15 minutes, doing small practices. There are so many videos and tutorials on YouTube that can teach you the basics. Your mind and body both benefit from yoga, and you’ll feel the benefits within a few days!
Home Spa
Why not save a day aside each week where you can arrange a day of pleasure: start with a relaxing bath with salts or oils, play relaxing acoustic music, and indulge in a face mask and hair mask. Follow with body lotion, fake tan if you wish, and the art of a self massage to make yourself feel lovely and calm.
Make plans and goals for life
Use this quiet time at home to think about your goals, what’s important to you, and how to move on. After all, this is not the first crisis in life and far from the last. Start to journal in the evenings and start off each day focusing on goals. Build long-term dreams and plan what you will do in the near future to reach them. Ideally, if you take at least a small step towards the goal day by day, you’re making progress.
In the meantime, hang in there. Lockdown will not last forever, and we’re slowing easing our way out. Enjoy what is left of it and get ready for normality to (hopefully) resume soon!
