We’re in the middle of a pandemic, and one of the things that we’re all missing right now is spending time with people who are outside of our usual bubbles. Everyone is handling mental health issues of some sort right now; we were not born to be alone, and being away from people we love for an extended period of time is going to mess with the mind. Taking care of our mental health is much harder during a pandemic situation, and yet what most of us need right now is a moment with our girlfriends!
When the lockdowns are done and you can finally be with the girls who make you feel alive again, we’ve got plenty of options for you all to unwind and enjoy time with each other when you finally can. Whether you are looking to head to the city for a night on the tiles or you want to go a little further out so that you can attend wellness retreats together, there is so much that you can do to have fun once again. So, we’ve put together a list of places you could all go together for those fun times you’re missing out on!
- Martial Arts Classes. You’ve spent goodness knows how long in lockdown, which means that you need to get out some of that pent up frustration. There’s nothing quite like getting the girls together and channelling that built-up energy into something constructive, which is why self-defence training can be such a powerful outlet as well as a confidence boost. Martial arts classes can offer you all the chance to have a fun and therapeutic experience together, and you can enjoy a range of different martial arts together, too. Make it a thing to go and have fun and fight!
- Games Night. Once you’re allowed to have everyone round together at last, take turns in hosting a games night. It doesn’t have to be a big thing: Doritos and dips, homemade cocktails and chocolate-dipped strawberries along with the best, funniest board games you can come up with? It’s a night to remember. You don’t even have to sit around and play Monopoly if you don’t want to; get the Nerf guns out and have a war! There are plenty of options for games nights, and if you don’t want to sit in, book a table at the local pool hall and mix up the pool and darts to enjoy yourself!
- Go Pole Dancing. No, don’t click off the article! Pole dancing has some negative connotations for some but it’s such an amazing exercise for your core and for improving body coordination. It can help you to release endorphins and increase your self-esteem as you go spinning around the pole, too. There are so many options for trial classes out there that you can have one of the best times with your girlfriends that you didn’t anticipate. Learning how to pole dance doesn’t mean that you’re going to sign up to the latest strip clubs in the area; it just means you’re going to learn to sweat and have fun all at once!
- Night-Time Bowling. Who doesn’t love a good game of bowling? Whether you go socially or you create your own bowling team, night time bowling is going to be the glow in the dark type that you can really have fun with. You can relieve stress, enjoy the fun and branch out after bowling to arcade games, too! Does it sound childish? Good! You and your girlfriends deserve the chance to unwind and loosen up, and this is the perfect way to do it.
- Spa Weekend, Anyone? We mentioned wellness retreats above, but there is nothing more fun than sitting around a jacuzzi with your girls, glass of champagne in hand. You can go to yoga classes, the gym, get a massage, pedicures, facials – all of the fun things you were missing while you were stuck in lockdown. A spa weekend with your girlfriends is so much better than a one-hour massage just once. When you dedicate a whole weekend to it, you can immediately feel the fun the moment you get there!

- Hike A Trail. Head to a supermarket and get everyone grabbing lunch, then take yourselves to a hiking trail nearby. There is something so therapeutic about walking together, chatting, laughing, taking the world apart in pieces. You need support and togetherness after the stress of lockdown, and walking a great hiking trail will give you the chance to do that. The reason to bring lunch is because at any point in your trail, you can down jumpers and sit for a picnic together. Just remember to get someone to bring the wine and a few plastic tumblers!
- Go Trampolining. Back to having fun with exercise, trampolining gives you the chance to work up a sweat, have a lot of fun and laugh together. You can jump til your heart’s content: it’s not just for kids, you know!
- Climb. Whether you love climbing walls or you want to complete the Three Peaks Challenge, you and your girlfriends can achieve a lot when you climb together. It can feel like a huge rush when you complete a challenge, and if you are a total climbing beginner, you can take classes and learn how to hold your body properly as you climb. You can all get a great workout out of it and then compare notes afterwards.
- Take a Yoga Class. When you work from home or you’ve been stuck with the kids in lockdown, you should consider taking a yoga class together to relax. You can choose from a wide variety of yoga options, hot yoga being one of the most popular out there! This will help you to work up a sweat as you go, and you can continue those good vibes you all want to share. You’ll learn to breathe, stretch and become more flexible as a result.
You need your girlfriends, and you need to be able to unwind and relax together. These are the best tips we’ve got to help you to do just that!
