If there’s one thing I would shout from my lungs about skincare, it’s the powers of retinol when it comes to anti-aging. I mean, I’ve been obsessed with skincare and skin health for about 15 years, so there is a lot I would shout about if given a microphone and a stage. The fact that hyaluronic acid is the bee’s knees for hydration and keeping skin plump. The fact that Salicylic Acid is a hero ingredient if you’re suffering from breakouts. But let’s keep today’s raving about why I love retinol so much, and discovering a brand that is new to me called L’ABU Skin which is centered around slowing down that aging look…
Before I start trying out products, I always dedicate time to research into the brand itself and their back story. There’s something about understanding the passion and hard work behind a brand that helps me become more aligned to it, and see where they have got their mission statement from. L’ABU is a mother daughter duo brand, who began their skincare journey after opening their first skin care clinic in 2017, offering self-regenerating treatments for lifting and tightening the skin.
I mean, most women want to have younger looking skin in a bid to feel better about themselves, and these ladies focused on making people look and feel the best version of themselves!
They share on their website that they researched more into what their clients wanted out of their skincare, and decided to take on a project to create natural products which are of salon grade – yet give uncomplicated skin care solutions. They work closely with the chemist to create formulations that benefit the skin, however keeping the range uncomplicated so that they are easily used. It was interesting to explore that the ladies are of Italian heritage and believe what you put into your body is just as important as what you put on the outside. Very true!
The three products I’m sharing today can be purchased as a trio set – what I would like to class as a hero anti-aging set. A powerhouse for easing and fading those fine lines and wrinkles, boosting collagen and improving the texture, look and feel of the skin.
I’m 34 so I’m starting to feel it within myself. When I smile, my eyes crinkle up and I have deeper lines at the side of my mouth. Now luckily I don’t have any forehead wrinkles, but I’d rather not speak too soon!
I believe that if you are looking for someone to purchase for this Christmas, or you’re looking for new skincare for yourself that concentrates on keeping the skin healthy and youthful, this trio set is going to be powerful. The moisturiser, serum and oil work together to deliver a powerhouse of ingredients to tackle the signs on aging, and there’s nothing better for your skin than using a range that all work in tandem with each other.
Here is a little bit of info on how I tried out using each one, and what I felt…
L’ABU Skin Anti-Ageing Face Serum
I always class a serum as a ‘treatment’ step. Your moisturiser is an essential, but not everyone will think of going that extra step further and adding in a treatment product. So with this one, I thought I’d start with it first as I believe it could well be my favourite!
You can apply this before or after moisturiser, in which the brand recommend before a moisturiser, which is usually ideal. You apply 2-3 pumps to the fingertips and rub into the face and neck until evenly spread. It sinks into the skin almost immediately, without being sticky.
I find the serum is the ‘firming’ step – and is key for tightening up the skin. It works with the vitamin A and AHA’s to slough away dead skin cells, renew the older skin to brighter, newer looking skin, and refreshes the complexion.
L’ABU Skin Anti-Ageing Face Moisturiser
After the serum, I usually wait a minute or two before massaging in the moisturiser when I was trying out this trio. Because it’s after the serum, you only need to apply a super small amount of product to the face and neck – avoiding the delicate eye area.
You’ll get the best results if you do this at night, so that the calming and soothing ingredients like Aloe Vera, Avocado Oil and Blueberry Extract can work deep into the skin to ease any redness or stressed skin. The softening and smoothing qualities to this moisturiser are second-to-none; I really felt like my skin was the softest ever when waking up after using these products in tandem.
L’ABU Skin Retinol Face Oil
Now for the nights when you want that main boost of anti-aging care for your skin, in comes the most powerful one. Charged with retinol – the anti-aging super hero ingredient – this oil feels like silk blending into the skin after the moisturiser, and locks in all the goodness from the moisturiser too.
Apply 2-3 drops and massage evenly around the skin. I wouldn’t say you need to use this every night with the other two products, you could mix them up to see how you feel. Perhaps the serum and moisturiser together for 2/3 nights, and the retinol on it’s own for 4/5 if you want that extra boost.
Remember that retinol is fabulous but it’s also strong, and some people can experience redness or tingling the first few times they use it. Now I didn’t notice it with this range, however I have used retinol many times before so I feel my skin has adjusted over the years to it’s ‘powers’.
With this range you also get Malic Acid and Glycolic Acid packed into the mix, which are brilliant for improving texture and fading pigmentation. A complexion with sun damage, brown marks and age spots will instantly look older, so it’s worth having these ingredients in your skincare to keep fading and easing.
