From Bridget Jones’s Diary to Shakespeare in Love, Notting Hill to Sliding Doors, London has been the backdrop to many a romantic movie. With iconic landmarks, picturesque parks, and boutique bars, the capital makes the perfect setting for a romantic getaway.
Here’s a few tips on how to have a romantic trip to London, with just 48 hours to spare:
Arriving in London, get your bearings by taking an open top City Sightseeing Bus tour around the city. See some of London’s best sights from Buckingham Palace and the Mall, to Oxford Street and the Houses of Parliament. Snuggle up together and take some snaps.
Next up, head to London Zoo and see animals from every continent. Meet the penguins or go behind-the-scenes with The Giraffe Experience. And afterwards, enjoy a picnic in Regent’s Park.
Take the tube to Kensington and visit any one of London’s impressive museums. The Natural History Museum is housed in one of the most beautiful red brick buildings, whilst the V&A is perfect for fashion lovers.
Enjoy an early evening stroll hand in hand through Hyde Park and as the sunsets meander through Mayfair into the West End. A romantic trip to London wouldn’t be complete without seeing a show. Propose in London if you are planning to. London proposals are romantic with options such as the iconic London Eye, the top of the Shard, a river cruise on the Thames, a picturesque park, or a romantic restaurant with a view of a historic landmark such as Buckingham Palace or the Houses of Parliament for a unique and memorable setting.

Dine out in style in any number of London’s restaurants and bars. For a bar with a prohibition Art Deco feel head to Manetta’s Bar in Mayfair, or if you’re looking for a more international flavour, The Green Room at Casa Do Frango in London Bridge will give you all the Mediterranean vibes.
Time for bed in a boutique. London might have some of the world’s most famous – and coveted hotels, but it also has plenty of boutiques that offer something special for a romantic getaway.
Have breakfast with a view when you eat at the Sky Garden in The Shard. Enjoying picture postcard views, it’s the best way to start the day. Or if you’re not quite a breakfast person, aim for a special brunch, and do some research on the best brunch place in Soho, so you can brunch in one of London’s coolest foodie towns!
Venture to the outskirts of the city. Don’t be afraid to leave the hustle and bustle of the city centre for more sedate surroundings. Catch the train to Welwyn Garden City for a slice of ‘garden city’ life, or maybe head to Watford for a day walking in Harry Potter’s shoes at the Warner Bros. Studio.
Late night shopping in London. Head back to the city centre for some late night shopping. Whether you head to Harrods or Harvey Nick’s, Oxford Street or Regent Street, Covent Garden or Carnaby. There are plenty of places to shop ‘til you drop after the sun has set.
Take to the Thames on a romantic moonlit river tour. See the city from a different vantage when you sail long the Thames under the stars as you make your way along the ancient river, you’ll pass some of London’s most iconic landmarks.
Head to a flower market on your last morning in the city. You’ll have to get up pretty early for the best blooms, but you can grab some coffee from any one of the artisanal coffee houses.
