The issue with cooking is that you have to do it every day, often more than once. It’s true that you can go out to eat, or you could order a takeaway, but that’s expensive and unhealthy. So it’s better to cook for yourself. Yet that’s when we come across the problem of having to do it so often. Some people love it and don’t mind at all, but a lot of people find it a chore, and they simply don’t enjoy cooking.
Yet it’s so important for your health, for socialising, and for relaxation. So with that in mind, here are some tips to help you fall in love with cooking so you can enjoy the process and get the most out of it.
Make It An Event
Cooking doesn’t have to be something you do by yourself; everyone can enjoy it. Invite your kids, your partner, your friends, and anyone else you can think of to help you cook the meal. You could also just invite people over to share the meal with you. You’re more likely to make something nice when you have people over, and you can ask other people to bring parts of the meal so you don’t have to do everything yourself. If this isn’t possible, why not try ready made lobster meals from FFT to help you out?
Experiment With Ingredients
If you’re just starting out in the kitchen, even if it’s just occasionally, it’s best to use ingredients you’re already comfortable with. After you’ve been cooking for a while, you can branch out and try new things, including dishes and ingredients you’re unfamiliar with. By doing something different from what you usually do, you can make cooking more fun.
Get Inspired
Sometimes all you need to do to come up with a new meal is buy a new kitchen tool or cookbook. You can also find copycat recipes from your favourite restaurants online if you want to cook something you already know is good. Do what you need to feel inspired by cooking, and you’ll be much more likely to enjoy it.
Make Your Kitchen Cooking-Friendly
Take a look at your kitchen. Is it a comfortable place to be? Are the cupboards and work surfaces in the right places to allow you to cook easily? Is everything within easy reach? If not, it might be time to change things around and make it a much better space to cook in.
This doesn’t necessarily mean installing a new kitchen (unless you want to, of course); it could be something as simple as adding some more storage or getting some containers to put ingredients and utensils in. Once the space is easier to use, cooking will be a lot easier too.
Reward Yourself
Do you want to watch the next episode of your favourite TV show? Do you fancy a glass of wine, or do you like the idea of reading your interesting current book? Great! Use these things as rewards to help you get cooking. Make a deal with yourself that you can only do whatever it is you want to do once you’ve got your dinner in the oven or served it up. You’ll be more focused on what you’re doing, and it could be that you really get into it. At the very least, you’ll have something to look forward to.
