5 Home Hacks That Will Blow Your Mind

Whether you rent or own, odds are that maintaining your home takes up a significant portion of your time on a daily basis.

In fact, taking care of a home, from cleaning and cooking to maintenance and organising, is something that fills up our time on a daily basis.

I don’t know about you but I tend to find myself wasting various hours of the day being unproductive in the home, or tackling and fighting with tasks that I don’t find easy.

I actually work from home, so you’ll find me at around midday loosing all my concentration, walking to Starbucks which is at the end of the road for a £3.50 fancy coffee just to re-focus my mind. My bank balance is really not happy about it.

Anyway, I’ve recently made a huge progression step. From enjoying the comforts of working from home, I’d find myself slouched on the sofa, laptop of my legs, working away. But then comes the distraction of the TV, or even (don’t tell anyone!) napping. Now, I’ve finally purchased a desk for the spare room upstairs, slowly turning the space into a home office.

And without further waffling, here’s 5 other little home life hacks which can change your life for the better…

1. Clean your blender with bits of soap

Anyone who’s ever attempted to clean a blender knows just how perilous doing so can be. After all, you’re essentially sticking your hand into a pitcher of knives.

The solution? After you have made a smoothie or a thick mixture, you’ll be left with lots of gunky substances. Add a little bit of soap to your blender machine, pour in two cups of warm water, and blend until that caked-on grime is a thing of the past.

2. Use towel-wrapped tongs to clean blinds

Having a hard time getting all the dust off your blinds? All it takes is a few items you already have in your home to get them squeaky clean. Simply wrap dish towels around either side of a pair of tongs and secure with rubber bands. Then slide the tongs between slats and voila!

Dust-free blinds in seconds.

3. Use foil as a scrub brush

When in a pinch, you can use foil to help you around the house for much more than food storage. When trying to scrub off hard to move stains on pots, pans and glassware, use tin foil balled up and use as a dish scrubber.

It can also polish silver, protect pie crust from being burnt, and more.

4. Recycle tin cans into home office items

Recreating tin cans into something new is not a new concept, but it is a hack that has endless possibilities. Depending on your decor aesthetic, you can either decoupage, paint, embellish or leave the tin cans in their current state.

i like using tin cans as pencil and pen holders in the office, but that’s just the beginning. Organise makeup brushes, toothbrushes, art brushes or utensils. Need extra organisation in the basement, garage or shed? Use tin cans for nails, screws and small accessories.

5. Surround yourself with yellow

The color yellow can be bright and intense, which is perhaps why it can often invoke such strong feelings. Yellow can quickly grab attention, and it can appear warm and bright. Studies say that it actually increases motivation, and helps keep your mind more focused.

So, if you tend to get fatigue or fade off from your tasks (or your concentration span doesn’t last very long), perhaps try to surround yourself with this colour.

And there you have it – a few little home hacks for easier living!
