If you’re in the market of buying a car, it doesn’t have to be intimidating. A lot of times, dealing with salespeople can get exhausting as they try to get you for every little thing. They are trying to upsell you, they leave out information, and they just want your sale no matter what. If you prepare yourself, car buying can be easy, and here’s how.
Get Pre Approved First
Before going to the dealership, get pre approved for your car loan or car finance first. This way, you won’t have to worry about finding the car of your dreams only to be denied a loan. Once you know how much you’re approved for through a GC car finance company, you can narrow down your options, giving the salesperson a clearer understanding of what you can realistically afford.
When you go into a dealership without this piece of information, a salesperson may try to sell you something that is out of your price range and convince you to buy it. Know what you can afford before heading in and eliminate one of the most annoying parts of car buying.
Don’t Upgrade
Upgrades through a dealership are costly. One of the ways that a salesperson will try and get a higher sale is to sell you things you may not necessarily need like fog lights, sun roofs, and subscription radio. Keep it as simple as possible when you are buying your car. Get what is standard, and if you don’t need anything added, then simply say no.
This will keep the price of the car down, and you will not drive off the lot with expensive add-ons that you are not going to use or actually need. Know what you can do without and buy your next car at a price you can afford.
Don’t Finance For Too Long
A lot of times you will lose money if you finance for too long because you will spend a lot in taxes and fees. Typical finance periods are around four or five years. Anything longer than that will not be worth your time or money. If a salesperson or bank tries to get more than five years out of you, simply decline.
When you work out your finances of what you can and cannot afford, make sure what you can afford can fit into five years. If not, that’s not the car for you. In the long run, you will lose money and you will have a bigger financial headache on your hands.
Stand Your Ground
A lot of salespeople will try to strong arm you into buying more and more. It’s their job to make quotas and make sales, but that is not your worry. Stand in your power and say ‘no’ if there is something you don’t want to do. It may seem hard to do this especially if you sympathize with the salesperson’s goals, but you have goals of your own.
Don’t allow yourself to get forced into anything you don’t want to do. You know what you want, so get it and leave.
