Many people don’t think about decorating their homes until October has passed, but walking around this in-store Winter Wonderland certainly makes you rethink. But even if you’re like me and wait until the end of November/beginning of December to start decking the halls, you can certainly gain a full festive experience which fills you with cheer.
Housing Units, if you didn’t already know, are what I like to call a leader in all things Christmas shopping. However, there is something much more breath-taking and magical about their Christmas department in comparison to other retailers, and that’s how their Christmas department doubles up as a truly festive in-store experience. For adults and children alike, you can browse a whole array of beautiful and inspiring Christmas home trends, along with exploring quirky and cute Christmas gifts, selfie and photo opportunities, and an interactive journey as you walk through the store.

Christmas Decor Trends at Housing Units
From taking a tour of their Christmas department, it was great to see that there was a big focus on traditional Christmas decor, using reds, greens, and golds as predominant colours and lots of natural wood finishes. Those classic Christmas characters like little drummer boys, reindeers and Santa Claus himself, feature widely across the traditional Christmas decor trend. If the timeless Christmas decor is what you have known and loved for many years (and decades, like me!) then you’ll be happy to see this sparkling royal red trend.
Traditional Red + Green
Red and green are the classic festive favourites when it comes to colour schemes. No matter how much you may want to branch away from them, nothing screams Christmas joy like it. The popular and traditional colour palette is inspired by the holly and the ivy, berries and sprigs, garlands and wreaths, with foliage sprinkled with snow. If you’re ever in doubt when it comes to how to colour your home at Christmas, remember that this traditional decor theme is 100% timeless – it’s the epitome of festivities.
It can also lay the foundations to then update with a splash of another colour you may want to experience– like glistening gold or icy blue. This year, Housing Units have updated the trend a little to reflect our modern day with metallic, sleek baubles, hints of woodland foraging and gold-adorned wooden characters for that injection of fun – yet keeping it stylish for the home.
Icy Blues
However, there are also so many other colours, textures and trend twist on the classic ‘Christmas’ at home. If you have a modern home, you may love the icy, metallic trend which fuses shimmering silvers, metallic teals and turquoise, bold cobalt blues and frosty whites.
By opting for this colour scheme, you’re going down the route of the ‘blue Christmas’ thing, which means you can adorn your tree with gorgeous shades from baby blue to darker tones. Around the home, on-hue ornaments and garlands can be decorated with flecks of blue, silver and white to give that real mystical Christmas feel. I also spied a lot of deep navy blues, which can give that dark, midnight feel to the Christmas decor trends. I can picture this looking stunning in a modern home with black walls and a minimalist theme.
Glamorous Golds
For those who relish the opportunity to decorate their homes a little more opulent this year, Housing Units have shown how you can bring in rich golds and bronze shades with a nod towards the glamorous Gatsby era. The glitzy gold approach looks sophisticated and adds a warming feel to the home, with stark contrasts of black, metallic leaf designs and pearlescent finishes.
The gold trend was also seen to carry through to a cheerier and fun theme from my visit in-store, with frosted Christmas trees being adorned with white and red glittering candy canes, lollipop-inspired swirls and striped baubles. This is a beautiful decor theme for those who want something a little more modern and stylish yet keeping the fun of Christmas to appeal to the little ones in the family.
Shiny and decadent, opting for gold in your home at Christmas brings a classic colour choice alive, pairing beautifully with traditional greenery. You can keep it more muted with neutrals, or you can set it off with greenery such as mistletoe, or even add a contemporary spin with the addition of glitter.
However you choose to introduce gold this Christmas into your home, it’s always going to make a statement and give a more luxurious feel. After all, Christmas is one of the only opportunities to bring gold into your home, especially if you tend to opt for more neutral colours throughout the year. It brings that warm glow into the home.

Pink Blush
Now one of my favourite trends seen throughout the Christmas store at Housing Units had to be the soft pink, pastel blush range, which incorporates fluffy textures and muted tones for a playful and feminine look. I would never personally know how to bring pastel shades – especially pinks – into my Christmas interior looks, but the store perfectly showcases just how well this pink palette can work.
Not always the first shade to come to mind when you think of Christmas interiors, but pink is one of the most versatile and neutral Christmas colours for the home in many ways. For one, it’s a perfect accent colour for elegant table decoration. The softer, pale pink colours are light and beautiful, working well with white Christmas decor ideas. You can also mix them with touches of purple and rose-gold tone for a real feminine twist to Christmas at home.
The array of pinks, golds, creams and silvers on show at Housing Units really entwined together to create a pretty frosted theme, using twig-style accessories, wooden characters and metallic flowers for something totally unique. I’m not sure how my husband feels about me bringing this soft, girly colour palette into our home this Christmas, but I am 100% for it – it looks fresh, pretty and magical. My little girl would adore this set-up at our home!
The overall beauty of pink Christmas trees and home decorations is that they create beautiful contrasts with silver and golden accents. A much softer, whimsical shade for homes this festive season.
Visiting Housing Units In Store
Of course, you can browse my photos taken in-store of the magical grotto-esque Christmas set-up, but the true experience comes from walking around the store in person and immersing in a truly unforgettable Christmas shopping experience. Those all-time classic Christmas songs are played under a bed of blue-tinted Christmas lights lining the ceiling, while you wander aisle upon aisle of Christmas decor treats.
Warning: it’s quite difficult to settle with a favourite colour palette or specific Christmas trend, due to the excellent visual styling the store has created. I found myself in love with the Gingerbread Men and Gingerbread House decoration offerings one minute and then leaning towards the modern frosted twigs and metallic flowers the next.
