After years of reigning, it seems that the once legendary man cave is stepping aside – as the up-and-coming ‘she sheds’ trend is taking over.
Booming especially when the weather is getting warmer, the ‘She Sheds’ have started to become one of the hottest new trend to take the UK by storm. People are spending more time in their gardens, and since the pandemic days, are finding new found joys in being at home. But whereas previously, a shed or out-house would be used to store gardening tools or later become an at-home bar, man cave, games room or whatnot, it’s the women who are now finding other uses.
It turns out that a She Shed can provide the perfect hideaway for some much-needed R&R this summer. It’s also now becoming more common for women to turn their garden sheds – or invest in new ones – to act as a retreat type space for their creative business, or a place for them to do their own tasks.
Kate Conrad, a leading interior stylist at Madison & Mayfair, a luxury provider of homeware and décor, has spoken about this trend and why you need a She Shed in your life. She has also provided insight as to how you can create your very own She Shed at home.
“I’m absolutely obsessed with this idea of a She Shed,” began Kate, who loves any new interior trend or decorating project.

The female equivalent of a Man Cave – a She Shed is a type of refuge where mums, wives, and girlfriends alike can escape from the daily demands of life, whether this be from pestering kids, spouses, or work.
“It’s so important for people to have a space to unwind, especially when the pressures of life get too much, and you just need a little downtime to collect your thoughts,” expressed Kate.
“To me, a She Shed presents the perfect place to do exactly this, which is why I think many women should hop on this trend and make their very own in the comfort of their own garden.”
As you can see from the image above, some women have taken the She Shed idea a step further, and created a space to run their business. This has been working for many of those in the beauty industry, who can carry out hair, beauty and makeup from their own homes. It’s also been used more commonly now for those with creative businesses in the arts and crafts, or as a yoga or exercise studio.

She said, “Personally, I believe no true She Shed can be complete without some barware and drinking accessories. “I’m talking about the likes of a drinks trolley to stylishly house your exclusive collection of drinks, and maybe even a cocktail shaker and some glasses for when you want to enjoy a flamboyant evening of drinking and gossiping with the girls.”
