With how our current lives have changed over the past decade or so, do you ever stop to think what our current millennials may look like as future grandparents?
I have to admit, though I often think about the life my little girl Olivia will grow up into, I don’t often stop to think about what today’s millennials will be like when they are actually grandparents. There are so many trends now that people adhere to – including being yogis, meditating and working out, being absorbed in fashion trends, and not to mention diet culture and cosmetic surgery trends.
I was recently made aware of what I can only describe as a very eye-opening, interesting piece of content over on the Chums website. They have not only explained about the fashion, beauty, lifestyle and cultural trends that shape today’s millennials, but have provided visuals which could give a peek into the future, of what these millennials could look like when they themselves are at grandparent age.

How I See Myself as a Grandparent
I would like to say that I’d not go down the route of fillers and facial (and body!) enhancements that seem to be becoming the norm in todays world. I’ve managed to get to 36 without going under the needle, however, who is to say I’m not going to start giving in as I approach 40? My eyes are certainly showing signs of life (a polite way to say fine lines and wrinkles). I can’t tell you how many times I have Googled ‘tear through’ treatments, and watched the videos of the needle going under the eye and wondering when I’ll be brave enough to have it.
As you can see from the first visuals, the ‘grandfather’ image of who Chums call ‘Chandler’, he has a hunched back, which is something that plays on my mind a lot. With our generations today constantly working, hunching over laptops and smartphones and all kinds of devices, our backs are naturally starting to stoop forward. Does this mean in the future, our ‘grandparents’ are going to have this natural stoop? If that’s the case, I best start working on my posture asap!
That itself makes me think of a business idea in itself – anyone for opening a posture clinic?!

The visuals also bring to life the kind of lifestyle aspects that are seen more as the ‘norm’ these days. Meditation, yoga and pilates are common practices, and we’re never without the latest tech gadget.
I have to say though, its the beauty side of growing older that intrigues me the most. The visuals of the future ‘grandmother’, who Chums have referred to as ‘Phoebe’, is very focused on a strong, fitness physique. Women are getting more and more into their physical health, with the rise of women enjoying workout regimes like CrossFit and weight-training. As it’s a relatively newer route for women, we haven’t properly seen what grandmothers look like who have dedicated their life to extreme fitness, with muscle training and building stronger legs and bigger bums.
On that note, the rise of fillers, tattoos and beauty enhancements don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. We may be used to seeing our current grandads, and grandads of the past, sporting their life passions in ink on their arms, backs, chests and legs, but now it’s time for the grandmothers! Women are increasingly favouring the tattooed look as a way to express what means a lot to them, which means we could absolutely be seeing a rise of tattooed grandmothers!
I’m not personally into a tattooed look, so by the time I’m a grandparent, I think I’ll be ink free, however I may have caved into the filler by then. Although I won’t be going down the strong physique look, I’m hoping to pay more attention to strength training the older I get to ensure my body is strong, fit and healthy. And as for beauty enhancements like eyelashes? Bring it on!
When you see these visuals, how do you feel about the future of our millennials? Do you see these images as a typical representation of what is to come? Do leave a comment with your thoughts!
