It’s Bridesmaid Season!
After just getting married myself, I felt it appropriate to put together an article about the bridesmaid dress trends of 2022 and 2023, for those currently searching for dresses. Of course, the dresses have to fit with your theme and preferences, but sit nicely with what you feel comfortable. It’s easy to get lead astray by what the brides wearing, or the grooms suit colour, etc etc. The key is to think about the venue, the general ‘vibe’ of the wedding, and then of course, you can look into trends to then help shape the decision.
Currently for 2022 and 2023, it’s all about earthy tones, with mix and matched styles and subtle sequins. There is a also a huge emphasis lately on cream and white dresses for bridesmaids, which at one point was never really considered.

From trending colours to neutral shades, elegant patterns and finishes, here’s some fresh inspiration for 2022/2023 bridesmaids…
Mix & match bridesmaid dresses
This has become one of the biggest trends I’ve noticed taking place, meaning that bridesmaid dress choice comes to individuality! You want your bridesmaids to look and feel their best as well as you, so sometimes it works by choosing different styles and shapes. Not everyone suits the same dress, and an eclectic mix of colours within the same colour palette or tonal theme can work really well.
Brands like Maya Deluxe offer many similar style dresses but with straps, sleeves, floaty and non-floaty, so the colour and design is the same but the style is different. Another great way of doing this is to keep the same style dress, but opt for a range of colours. To do this well, stay tonal, eg. all in bold brights, or all in muted pastels. Try not to mix brights and pastels as it could look very mis-match.
White or cream bridesmaid dresses
Who said white is only for the bride? Not anymore! 2022 has seen the trend rise in bridesmaids wearing cream or white bridesmaid dresses, usually in classy silky satin numbers. This is set to get bigger and more common for 2023, with brides preferring their maids in a timeless, cream, slinky dress.
Brides don’t always have a colour preference so we’re seeing more and more brides ditch wedding traditions. White and cream is sleek and elegant, and you’ll often spot cream, ivory and neutral tones photographed at celebrity weddings or preferred by designers.
Jewel tones
People are turning away from the traditional shades of lilac and mauves and going for more jewel tones, which sit beautifully with a brides white, cream or ivory dress. Instead of peaches and dusty pinks, maids are opting for rose gold instead which gives a touch more glamour. You’ll find that long rose gold satin bridesmaid dresses suit a variety of skin tones and hair colours, and the colour is much more glamorous than the more ‘flat’ shades we were once seeing.
The same can be said for the more bolder jewel tones. Instead of sage, maids are now seen to be wearing emerald green, and instead of baby blue, sapphire is much more vibrant and stand out. Bridesmaids are such a big part of a wedding that it’s important their dresses are just as beautiful and statement as the brides – but obviously not to take the limelight!

Multiway dresses
Multiway dresses are becoming incredibly on trend because they literally can be styled up as you please. If you’re not familiar with these, they basically feature fabric that can be wrapped around to create a cap sleeve, a one shoulder style, a bandeau style with shoulders out, or even off shoulder styles! They are so versatile, you can ensure your maids are all wearing the same dress yet each one wears it a slightly different way.
Floaty and floral
With the rise of more destination weddings or informal venues and events, floatier, spring inspired maxi dresses have become more popular. Adorned with light floral prints and ditzy patterns, floaty and floral dresses are on the horizon and continue to look big for 2023. These are especially beautiful for those dreamy outdoor weddings abroad, those at-home garden weddings, tipi events or if you just want that feminine and effortless feel for your bridal party.
