Who doesn’t love an excuse to eat cake, drink bubbles and hang out with mates? We love to celebrate our birthdays, so why not do the same for your four-legged friend? Here’s how you can make your dog’s first birthday extra special for them and you.
Firstly, Get some Food in
There’s nothing dogs like more than food. Glorious food. So their first birthday wouldn’t be complete without some nibbles for them. Get them a birthday box and fill it with wet dog food and little treats to really get their tails wagging. You could even get a personalised cake made – or try baking it yourself. Avoid anything too high fat and of course don’t use chocolate, but a cake with flavours of peanut butter, carrot and honey, with a potato yoghurt frosting, is sure to go down a storm!
Think about the venue
Carefully plan where you’re going to host your pup’s party. Perhaps your home is well set up for it with plenty of room inside and out, in which case, get everyone over. If not, try a dog friendly beach or park for hours of fun, guaranteed.
Invite Friends
Take the opportunity to invite your friends – especially if they have dogs of their own. Put out plenty of water and some snacks for the animals and enjoy watching them play together.
Have Fun with Themes
Why not theme the day? You could go for Hollywood glamour, the circus or even Disney. (Can you think of anything cuter than a pup dressed as Cinderella or Mickey Mouse?!) If your dog is named after someone or something, why not base the day around that? Or if their birthday is around Halloween or another holiday, run with it and go all out.
Treat the Humans too
Make sure you give your non-furry guests some incentive to come to the puppy party, too. Supply plenty of drink and some party food too for all the humans, so everyone can enjoy the celebration.
Plan Dog-Friendly Games
Why not devise some dog-friendly games to keep the birthday boy or girl and their friends busy? You could get a ball pit for them to jump round in, or maybe set up an obstacle course. It’ll keep them occupied and will tire them out – win, win!
Take Pictures
Don’t forget to take lots of photos as you’ll want to look back on the memories in years to come. Dress your pet in a birthday hat to make them extra fun.
Give out Doggy Party Bags
No celebration is complete without a party bag – and that includes when dogs are involved, too! Pack it full of treats, add in a ball or a little toy and everyone will leave happy.
