How many of you have had more than enough time away from salons, clinics, beauty specialists and beyond since lockdown began last year? I know that I for one have never gone this long without my regular appointments! Lockdown made me realise just how much I rely on being able to book in at hairdressers, with nail technicians, lash artists and facialists. Just to be able to book in whenever suits…. it really is a luxury that I hadn’t quite appreciated.
Anyway, touch wood we’re getting back to normal now, and I feel like although the experiences aren’t exactly the same anymore (let’s face it, social distancing and mask wearing is here for a long time yet), I’ve never been so grateful for our beloved salons. Since life started to ease back slowly to normality, I’ve already had a full head of highlights, a hair cut, a facial peel and a round of microneedling. It had to be done!
If you’re like me and appreciating the talent of hair stylists, beauty and wellness specialists, you might be keen to hear about a booking website I’ve recently discovered called Booksy. It’s basically a free online booking system for those who are looking at easily booking a beauty or wellness appointment, which lets you search through an array of places.
What is Booksy?
I decided to use Booksy for the first time when realising that I have absolutely no idea where to go for classic eyelash extensions, near me in Newcastle Under Lyme. I’m from Manchester and have lived there my whole life, but with moving to Newcastle under Lyme in recent years where my partner is from, I never really made it ‘home’. I work in Manchester (well, I did before COVID anyway!) and would still trust my old local salons for everything from facials to tanning.
Now, it’s time to start reducing my travel and finding new places I love close to home, but I literally did not know where to start. Luckily, Booksy made it really simple, as it took the searching and research part out of it for me. I first went on the site (they have an app too!) and clicked on the Eyebrows and Lashes menu, before entering my postcode and letting it bring up a list of local eyelash technicians who carry out a variety of lash treatments.
The first one that came up had classic eyelashes listed for £40, which is actually cheaper that what I would pay in Manchester. The best bit is you can find a list of reviews from other customers, and if you like what you see, you can easily just book online without even having to speak to anyone or send them a private message or whatever we find ourselves having to do on social media or by phoning up!

I’m actually a bridal makeup artist too, which I do on the weekends when I’m not doing my online marketing and content writing jobs (the joys of being freelance – you can have many strings to your bow!). When I was using Booksy I actually thought what a great site it could be to get myself listed on too for the other side of it all. Noted!
The best thing about using a company like Booksy is the ease and simplicity about the whole thing. I downloaded the app so that when I want to have a little look at what salons or professionals have got any available appointments on the date I have in mind, for whatever treatment I’m thinking of, I can just get out my phone and have a browse. The prices are all displayed, and the app takes care of all payments. It literally is a breeze to use and I tell you something – I can about to go to town with beauty appointments for the rest of this year!
I’m looking at more skin peels and microneedling treatments to really get my skin texture sorted, along with boosting the plumpness of my skin. I definitely need another hair appointment as the full head of highlights still wasn’t quite a ‘full’ as I wanted. I am also in desperate need for microbladed brows again and it’s been two and a half years since I had them done!
Hair professionals supporting customers well-being…
It was really interesting to see that Booksy carried out a survey recently, which found that 43% of hair professionals feel they function in two roles. The first role is a hairdresser & then second a counselor— supporting mental well-being of clients. This has obviously come about through the pandemic, where they have found that they’ve increasingly become ‘unofficial therapists’. I can totally see this – I have poured my heart out to my hair stylist on more than one occaison even before the pandemic!
Take a look at some of the findings…
What treatments are you guys looking forward to booking in for now life is slowly getting better? Let me know if you use – or have used – a system similar to Booksy. Keen to hear your thoughts…
