I wanted to put this review together for those interested in the more ‘fancier’ and advanced flossing devices out there. I got hold of this portable oral irrigator as a gift for my other half, who is always complaining about his teeth and mouth health. Fed up of the traditional flossing methods, he’d seen these clever devices and I noted it down as a potential gift for him.
The Liberex Portable Oral Irrigator was something I thought I’d let him review for me, as someone cautious about their teeth feeling like they were prone to plaque, and in need of a deeper clean. So after using it for around three weeks, here’s some of the thoughts he’s had since adding this to his daily teeth cleaning routine…
What is the Liberex Portable Oral Irrigator?
In a nutshell, it’s a water flosser, that works with a strong jet system for daily teeth cleaning. It uses an ultra-fine pulsed water flow to get into the gaps of the teeth, like a classic flosser would, except the strong water flow can act quicker and more effectively to clean and massage.
It’s fully hygienic with it’s use of water, and works effortlessly to remove hard-to-reach plaque around orthodontic brackets and wires if you have braces. My other half doesn’t, but traditional floss was causing bleeding gums, in which this device definitely avoids anything of the sort. After all – it’s water aimed at a set pressure gently working through the teeth and gums, so it’s painless!

What’s the verdict?
At first use, my partner said that the device felt quite powerful, but he soon got used to it and could adapt the power himself slightly until he felt comfortable. It’s fairly noisy too, so it’s easy to be a little overwhelmed at first use.
However, once you’ve gotten used to it, it’s a pretty neat machine! The water jets works to deeply massage the gum which promotes gum blood circulation, as well as working to relieve periodontitis, gingivitis and teeth shrinking, which can all take place if the gaps between teeth and the gums aren’t kept clean and massaged.
It’s super easy to use, and is pretty much foolproof. It does exactly what is says it does – cleverly uses water to clean and massage teeth and gums, giving the feeling of a deep clean you’d get when visiting a dental hygienist.
My partner said it took around 5 days (5 uses) to notice that his teeth and gums felt smoother, cleaner and sort of ‘un-plugged’ – if that makes sense! It has the clear LED display with 4 modes, so you can choose if you want a softer or stronger flow mode. I would recommend starting with a soft mode first and as you get used to it, then up it and switch to a medium and so on.
