Fashion: How to Build a Summer Wardrobe

With summer right around the corner, it’s officially time to start thinking about what new pieces to buy, and how to build the perfect versatile wardrobe ready for the warmer months! When buying any new clothing, it’s important not to splurge out on loads of impulse buys that you may not wear, and instead to carefully choose items that can be worn all summer long.

If you’re currently in the process of sprucing up your wardrobe for summer, then take a look at this guide to some of the top summer essentials you should invest in this season.

Find the perfect day dress

The right day dress should be flattering and versatile enough to wear whatever the occasion, and cool enough to endure the hottest of weathers! Tea dresses are a great option, offering a cute style and usually available in a variety of summery prints and colours. Or if you’re into more of a boho vibe, maxi and midi dresses are popular for summer as they’re breezy and when paired with sandals, create an effortless daytime look.

I love little shift style dresses, like the white feather print dress above. It can easily be dressed up and down, but its super light, airy and fresh looking for Summer.

Cool down your casual wear

As the weather warms up, it’s time to tuck the jumpers and knits you lived in throughout autumn deep into your wardrobe and invest in some new casualwear. Although it may seem boring to some, you can never go wrong with a good t-shirt and mini skirt combo on a sunny day!

Oversized shirts can also make a stylish addition to your summer wear, and it’s always worth investing in a lightweight kimono or cardigan to throw on during cloudy days. For a wide selection of casualwear in a range of colours and styles, visit Bellfield clothing to find some key summer pieces for your wardrobe.

For me, I’m taking a twist on my usual style. I’ve been looking at vamping up an oversized t-shirt with bare legs and dressy shoes…

Update your denim

Jeans are a wardrobe necessity whatever the weather, but can be the last thing you’d want to wear on a boiling hot day. Denim shorts and skirts are key for summer as they go well with anything, and are a top pick for festivals and holidays. Another must have item is the denim jacket, which is perfect for jazzing up casual daytime looks and can be also styled with evening wear for a relaxed night out ensemble.

Also – remember than dungarees (especially the shorts versions!) have massively come back in fashion and are more than ideal in the warmer months.

Invest in some summer sandals

Unless you’re partying away in a muddy festival field, you’ll want cooler footwear options to throw on for the summer months. Start hunting for your ultimate pair of summer sandals now so that you’re ready for impromptu beach days and beer garden get together’s. Espadrilles and ankle tie sandals remain a big trend for summer 2017, and are super comfy which is a huge bonus.

Shop around for swimwear

Whether you have a beach holiday planned or not, it’s always nice to buy some new swimwear once the new designs hit the stores. Pick a style that’s most flattering for your body type and that you feel most comfortable in. It’s also worth shopping around for a chic beach cover up too, which is particularly handy when sunbathing in the unpredictable British weather!
