autumn fashion
It’s that time of year again – it’s Autumn and it’s finally socially acceptable to fill up on carbs again and start covering up with layers, tights and wide brimmed hats. Yes, Autumn is here and with it comes drizzly weather and shorter days. But it’s not all bad! Golden leaves on trees, wrapping up for brisk weekend walks and counting down to Christmas, collectively give us all the perfect excuse to invest in a new season wardrobe.

So this little post has been put together to make sure you have the perfect autumn accessories now the darker colour palettes are taking over, and the warmer clothes are being considered…

Aside from your new season coat (camel hues are a favourite this A/W), a bag is probably the next most important item to choose – you’re going to carry it everywhere, everyday. For 2015 think tassels tassels tassels, which are more versatile than you might first think, especially in black or neutral colours. For a bolder statement, mock snakeskin, colour pops (purples, cobalt blues) and metallics are a great way of wearing current trends. For a bag that will see you through winter and beyond, peruse labels that you know have a good reputation for high quality. If you’re not feeling so flush, take a look at the sales or outlet shops, the Joules sale always has a great selection.

Wellies and umbrellas

Okay, so these aren’t the most glamorous of accessories but nothing looks worse than wearing your favourite outfit and being drenched head to toe. Get a well made umbrella – not one that you’ve picked up from the £1 store (I’m guilty of this – ooops!) because you know that will just break or fly away! These days umbrellas are jazzed up a little with cute prints or are kept simple with clear or dark mono-colours (a more versatile and arguably better choice!). As for wellies, Hunter designs look good even when it’s not raining and they will last for years. Cheaper versions will also do the job though and there are plenty of wearable styles on the market. You’ll be thankful for this advice the next time a storm erupts just before you leave the house.

The wide brimmed fedora still reigns supreme this season but it’s not exactly practical. Save them for calmer Autumn days and make sure you have a beanie or bobble hat on hand for when it gets windy – they look super sweet and keep your head warm. Another perennial headpiece that should be found in every wardrobe is the faux fur hat and/or headband. Stick to browns, beiges and blacks and wear to add some pizzaz to your outfit in the snowy weeks. It’s better to choose a shade different to your hair to prevent blending in, so blondes wear blacks and brunettes go with something lighter.

All you need now is to wrap it up with a scarf. Again, the faux fur variety are a lovely way of keeping warm or perhaps go for a shearling design. On more casual days add some much needed colour to grey days with a bright scarf featuring floral or animal prints. Check scarves are also a traditional favourite that never go out of fashion so make sure you have one in your collection – they’re super comforting.

Who said the colder seasons are a reason to feel grumpy? I love Autumn/Winter fashions much more than the Summer, so hopefully this post will inspire you all a little bit and give you that boost!
