Cake Break

It’s no secret that us Brit’s love to hold events. Some of the celebration weeks that got brought to my attention the other day made me smile, such as National Chip Week, National Storytelling Week, National Bed Month (by far the best idea I’ve heard to date) and World Maths Day (by far the worst)…. but the cutest had to be National Cupcake Week, which started on the 13th September. What a nice week we are in right now!

As cupcakes have fast become the most fashionable desert on the menu these days, cupcake shops and stalls have also become trendy hang-outs for fashionable folk. So where else to head other than Selfridges to tuck into some seriously stylish and sophisticated cupcakes?

Manchester’s Selfridges stores, both Exchange Square and the Trafford Centre branch, have opened its newest and most exciting concession – Jellytots & Dollymixtures Cupcake Company. Here, cupcakes are hand-made and iced each morning using as many locally sourced ingredients. The original shop is based in South Manchester, and director Louise Jones has created a truly successful brand with Jellytots growing from strength to strength, creating cakes from the basic Vanilla, to flavour of the month and weekend specials.

The cakes sell at £1.99 in Selfridges, and £1.80 from the store, so it’s a real treat for us sweet tooths from Manchester. Selfridges is one of the worlds most prestigious and stylish department stores, so where else best to host a trendy cupcakery, where shoppers can pop down their Chanel bags for a moment and indulge in cake heaven!

Email the team at Jellytots & Dollymixtures at or give them a call on 01616372199. Or check out their beautifully designed website here, where you can order cakes for any event you may be holding – what a perfect finishing touch! And this website makes me so hungry just browsing through it!
